Care for the Caregiver: Staying Healthy

Putting care for the caregiver at the top of the list of priorities is a much studied topic. When a caregiver stays healthy, the family member is more likely to be well cared for - simple logic, but not as easy as it seems. Caregivers deal with stress, which can cause a myriad of health problems. Caregivers had a 23 percent higher level of stress hormones and a 15 percent lower level of antibody responses than non-caregivers. Over time, elevated stress hormones can lead to high blood pressure and glucose levels, increasing the risk of hypertension and diabetes. Poorer immune response can … [Read more...]

Relaxing

I'm pretty stressed out right about now. I'm really happy that I get to go to my favorite place, Disney World, tomorrow. I have a sleeping child who probably will be awake all night, laundry to do, packing to finish, bills to pay, and tons of odds and ends. That when you buy a gift that you think is perfect, it's actually something you want - subconsciously? That the government will take years to find your ex-husband who owes … [Read more...]

I've been trying to get a grasp on what God wants for me at this time in my life. I feel as if I'm going through a mini mid-life crisis. I'm being pulled in a lot of directions and not getting the joy I felt with the things I'm doing like I used to. As a matter of fact some times the ministries or volunteering I do feels like work. This can be because of not having much energy and not doing as well as I have … [Read more...]
