Today I saw the Neurologist and begged for help with the way I've been feeling. I didn't need to beg because he knew that I was sick. He could tell just by looking at me and hearing me speak. My last blood test came back normal. That was my CBC. The only thing he could do now was have me slowly increase the Mestinon. After 4 weeks if I don't feel any better I am to call him. The next thing is to increase the Cellcept, not good as this is one of the immunosuppressants I take. So I'm praying that the Mestinon works. He's also going to have me get my Potassium tested every 2 months and work … [Read more...]

Can I Be Smarter Than My Doctor?

When I am not feeling well and know what the symptoms are about, I call the specialist that deals with that particular illness. (Just a reminder, I have multiple chronic illnesses and doctors.) Today was one of those times. I've been getting cramps in my calves and feeling very fatigued. This usually means that my Potassium levels are low. So I called the Nephrologist's office to ask if I could get a prescription for a blood test. My phone call turned into an interrogation about why I thought I needed to have a blood test, why I couldn't wait until my next dr's appointment, which by the way … [Read more...]

Just Another Day

And so Peanut went back to school today. After much complaining on her part, the day went well. She woke up on time and although she was far from pleased she got herself ready for school and off we went. It was an odd feeling having the house to myself today. I've been used to having her home, my In-Laws here and other family visiting for the recent weeks. So did I do anything constructive? Not a bit! Instead of using the time I needed to get some blogging done, to work on some more of my Aunt's Medicare paperwork, to pay bills, to put away some Christmas decorations, I slept. I really … [Read more...]

Christmas Decorating Put On Hold

We are almost done with our decorating. In fact if you came into my home, you'd think we are done. But we still have a lot more surprises to put up on our shelves, windows, in our kitchen and bathroom. Yes, we do that much decorating. For the past few days though I've been feeling kind of dizzy and began getting cramps in my legs. I also have been more tired than usual. Well, today I found out that my Potassium level is low again. I slept almost all day today. And the Myasthenia Gravis symptoms got pretty bad too. There was no way I could even lift my arms to hang up any of our Angels … [Read more...]

Hungry Finally

I've had to practically force myself to eat for the past few weeks. I just haven't had an appetite. It's been a royal pain because eating and getting the nutrients I need especially the potassium that I'm lacking is so important. Plus being on extra meds means having to eat more because with every med I take I need to have some food along with them. Hubby has been trying to tempt me with all kinds of food even things I shouldn't have like french fries with ketchup and mayonnaise, baked potato with cheese and sour cream (that's a good one with lots of potassium), almonds (another good one), … [Read more...]
