It’s Been Over Six Months

Thank goodness for my husband. He can remember phone numbers, addresses and dates too. I haven't been feeling well at all lately. I've been through low Potassium, a virus, a flare up and then found out I'm going through "The Change". But I still feel sick. My husband has been trying to figure out what is going on. He realized that it's been more than six months since I've seen my neurologist who takes care of the Myasthenia Gravis. Sure enough when I called the doctor's office yesterday, I found it was 8 months. Right after that call, I got a call from the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy … [Read more...]

Christmas Decorating Put On Hold

We are almost done with our decorating. In fact if you came into my home, you'd think we are done. But we still have a lot more surprises to put up on our shelves, windows, in our kitchen and bathroom. Yes, we do that much decorating. For the past few days though I've been feeling kind of dizzy and began getting cramps in my legs. I also have been more tired than usual. Well, today I found out that my Potassium level is low again. I slept almost all day today. And the Myasthenia Gravis symptoms got pretty bad too. There was no way I could even lift my arms to hang up any of our Angels … [Read more...]

Bummed Out

I'm totally bummed out. I had another set back with my health. After church yesterday morning I came home and fell asleep for about 3 hours. I was expecting that since that was my first time out of the house in a long time and just taking a shower was tiring me out. What happened next really upset me though. I knew I wouldn't be able to cook dinner for Hubby so I told him to decide on a restaurant that he wanted to eat and we'd get take home. I felt so tired still and had a migraine so bad that I there was no way that I could drive. I also started having more MG symptoms. Today when I … [Read more...]

I Think I Can

I'm afraid to write this. I'm even afraid to think it, but I think that I may be starting to feel better. No exclamation point because this is a very cautious statement at the moment. Last night my muscles were twitching a lot, a symptom of MG or a symptom that I took too much Mestinon. Odd, but true, the symptoms of an overdose of MG mimic some of the symptoms of MG or even worse an MG crisis, any way...I had the feeling that it was that I took too much. Call it that inner sense those of us with chronic illnesses have, but I began to think I may be feeling better. This morning I was able … [Read more...]

Trying To Stay Positive

Having a chronic illness that is as life changing as Myasthenia Gravis has given me a new perspective on life. When I first was diagnosed with it five years ago, I went from having a drooping eyelid to being pretty much bed bound within a matter of months. I had major surgery called a Thymectomy, where my Thymus gland was removed. It is like open heart surgery because the Thymus gland is in your chest area. The recovery was long and hard and I had complications during the surgery and recovery. But within 3 1/2 years I was so much better that I was able to walk without a cane, stay awake and … [Read more...]
