Fearless Disabled Traveler

Traveling as a disabled person can create lots of challenges and cause apprehension. I travel despite the challenges and turn the obstacles into opportunities. I am a fearless traveler who makes it my mission to inform other people with disabilities that traveling is a way to feel free and more independent. Fearless Mobility I use a battery powered scooter as a mobility aid because of Myasthenia Gravis and Rheumatoid Arthritis and the resulting weakness, pain and fatigue.  This can be a barrier when traveling because of its size and weight. Thankfully we have a lift for our vehicle for road … [Read more...]

New Hairstyle Equals New Outlook

Who would think that a new hairstyle would help me get a new outlook on life? If you're a woman, you may get that going from shoulder length hair to a short buzz cut is a huge change and can do things to your head figuratively and literally. From the time I met my husband, and years before that, about 10 plus years, I had long hair. It was something I treasured, even though it took a long time to take care of every day. I could go to the mall, the grocery store and even to Disney World again. I had a friend who had multiple chronic illnesses who had a Medicare wheelchair. When she saw my scooter, she asked her doctor for a prescription for one also. The … [Read more...]

I Used My Noggin

I actually did some thinking today. Well, I got some advice and used my noggin to follow it. Instead of waiting until my neurologist's appointment on February 4th, I called his office to tell them how badly I feel. I got a call back within the hour and was told to increase the medication I take for Myasthenia Gravis, Mestinon. I'm taking 120 mg at 3 PM instead of 90 mg. Then if I feel like I need to increase it tomorrow at my 9 PM dose, I can do that. Today, I felt a bit better after the 3 PM dose but it was wearing off at 6 PM. Tomorrow I'll try increasing the 9 PM dose and see how that … [Read more...]
