Today I saw the Neurologist and begged for help with the way I've been feeling. I didn't need to beg because he knew that I was sick. He could tell just by looking at me and hearing me speak. My last blood test came back normal. That was my CBC. The only thing he could do now was have me slowly increase the Mestinon. After 4 weeks if I don't feel any better I am to call him. The next thing is to increase the Cellcept, not good as this is one of the immunosuppressants I take. So I'm praying that the Mestinon works. He's also going to have me get my Potassium tested every 2 months and work … [Read more...]

So Sleepy and Annoyed

I'm still sleepy and feeling yucky. I went to get a blood test that was scheduled any way called a CBC. I was thinking that maybe I was a bit anemic again. Yesterday I get a call from my Primary Care Doctor with two questions: Are you on a blood thinner? (My heart started beating fast.) Then, are you having surgery? (Now, feeling total confusion.) I answered no to both questions. And then learned that the lab did the wrong test. They actually did some kind of test that is done before surgery. So, I have to go back to have the blood test done again. And I still don't know if I'm anemic. … [Read more...]

Can I Be Smarter Than My Doctor?

When I am not feeling well and know what the symptoms are about, I call the specialist that deals with that particular illness. (Just a reminder, I have multiple chronic illnesses and doctors.) Today was one of those times. I've been getting cramps in my calves and feeling very fatigued. This usually means that my Potassium levels are low. So I called the Nephrologist's office to ask if I could get a prescription for a blood test. My phone call turned into an interrogation about why I thought I needed to have a blood test, why I couldn't wait until my next dr's appointment, which by the way … [Read more...]

Results Are In

I called my Primary Doctor's Office this morning to check on my lab results. I found out that everything was normal - big sigh of relief - and that the office calls people with lab results whether they are normal or abnormal. That is quite unusual. In fact I've never gotten a phone call with good news from any doctors office. Usually it's "no news or good news". So OK I'm off to my Rheumatologist's office for my regular check up thinking everything is hunky dory. I get into the exam room and we chat a bit. He's very nice and sees you as a whole person so he always asks how things are as he … [Read more...]

Waiting Not Worrying

I got a phone call while I was out today. Most of the time I'm home almost all day but of course today I wasn't home until 4PM. The call was from my Primary Doctor's office. The message was that I was to call the office about my blood test results. I get blood tests every three months from my rhuematologist who keeps track of my levels for the inflammatory diseases like Rheumatoid Arthritis and Sjogren's Syndrome. He also orders a CBC which is to keep track of my blood count as I am anemic. My primary doctor asked if he would add a thyroid test as it's likely for me to develop problems … [Read more...]
