The Holiday Special

On Friday, December 2nd at 8:30 AM ET/PT, the Disney Channel will airing the special Jake and the Never Land Pirates - It’s A Winter Never Land!/Hook on Ice. One of the latest Disney holiday shows around! Jake, Izzy and Cubby awake to find that Peter Pan has left the crew presents and a tree to celebrate Winter Treasure Day and Captain Hook invites Jake and the crew on a winter treasure hunt. And I bet we won’t be the only ones tuning in since this show is one of the most co-viewed preschool series, with 45% of moms watching with their preschoolers. Here’s a clip of the special to get you ready:

Jake and the Never Land Pirates Tidbits

The main characters of the show are Jake, Cubby and Izzy (two boys and a girl) who are pirates in Never Land. They do what pirates do, search for treasure, but they have to beware of  Captain Hook, Smee, and Tick-Tock the Crocodile. Captain Hook is really mean and likes to steal from Jake and his crew. But the crew are pirates and they use team work, problem solving and physical ability to get their stuff back. When they solve their pirate problem, they get gold dubloons.  The Never Land Pirate Band is a big part of the show too.  Bones and Sharky are always ready with some toe tapping tunes.

Proof That We’re Fans

I received a package of Disney Junior and Jake and the Never Land Pirates themed items valued at $100 from Team Mom to assist me with this post. I’ll be sharing them with young friends who can make use of them.

In the first episode of season 2, Leanord and Penny are both insecure about their first date. Each one realizes that they have feelings for the other, though. Leonard learns that Penny feels uptight about her intelligence, so he tries to help her. What does he do? He gives  her brochures to a local community college and tells her he is fine dating a girl who isn’t smart. Penny is smart and slams the door in his face. Telling a woman that she isn’t smart is terribly dumb.

Three More Things a Man Should Never Say to a Woman:

1. You look OK. – Compliments are meant to be thoughtful, so think along the lines of beautiful, hot, pretty, etc.
2. I didn’t have anything else to do. (when spending time with a woman) – If you want a woman to leave, just say this.
3. It wasn’t a big deal. – Oh yes it was! If a woman is bringing up any issue, it’s serious.

You’ll hear lots more awkward lines come from the gang of the Big Bang Theory, which is now on 5 nights a week. Poor guys need to work on their social skills, especially when it has to do with women.

And what was the breaking point that lead to Sheldon’s dismissal? Sheldon insisted the team be named the Army Ants. Yup, they’d all be standing there with a big AA on their shirts. No matter what the gang said, Sheldon insisted that no one would think of Alcoholics Anonymous. Instead they’d think of Anodized Aluminum. Wouldn’t you?

So the gang’s team, minus Sheldon is in competition against Sheldon’s AA Team. But they’re really playing against only Sheldon who hogs the buzzer to answer all of the questions. I won’t go into any more details in case you haven’t seen this episode of the Big Bang Theory, but it’s another show that I’d watch over and over. I’m a big fan.

Thankfully, I’ve never been in competition with any of my close friends, but when you’re a blogger, there’s always competition for writing opportunities, working with brands and being chosen for events, etc. The way I handle it is to do the best I can and know that there’s chances to be chosen for other things that come along my path.

Penny dresses as a cat, pretty normal. And of course a bit sexy.  Sheldon dresses as the Doppler Effect, which most people can’t figure out.  Leonard is Frodo from Lord of the Ring. I guess he doesn’t get that this character just makes everyone think about his height, or lack of it.  Howard is Robin Hood but gets mistaken for Peter Pan!  Raj is Thor, the Norse god of thunder. Well, he’s trying to live out the fantasy of being outgoing.

If there were a costume contest, I’d give Sheldon the win for the most creative costume and for having the guts to wear a something that looks like one piece pajamas with long lines. Holy Neeeeeeeuuuum!

Just remember that you can catch the hilarity of the Big Bang Theory 5 nights a week. You’ll never know if the gang will be wearing Halloween costumes or doing something else geeky.

You see, Penny asks Leonard to get back her TV from her ex-boyfriend’s house. Her boyfriend is the exact opposite of Leonard – all looks and no brains. The result – Leonard gets de-pantsed. It’s not the first time this has happened to him and he accepts that it won’t be the last, especially when it comes to Penny.

We get to relive all the episodes of the Big Bang Theory now that’s it’s on 5 nights a week on MOR. Starting with Season one and going through each season. Don’t forget to tune in and think about the most embarrassing thing that’s happened to you especially when it comes to love.  For me, it was asking writing a note to a guy that I had a crush on. Instead of cherishing that note, he showed it to everyone. I wanted to die!

The Big Bang Theory is one of those shows that brings back memories and creates new ones.  If you have a teenager who hasn’t seen the show from the start, now’s the time to watch together.

They’re a playful group of geeky guys laughing about Astrophysics. Yup, Astrophysics can be funny, didn’t you know? When Leonard, Sheldon, Wolowitz and Raj get together it sure is because of their obsessions and odd way of looking at things. Any time I watch The Big Bang Theory, I know I’ll be in on the jokes and actually laugh out loud.

Now my type of work is done at home (writing blog posts and taking part in social media). And while it seems that I don’t work with anyone, I’m actually part of a big community of other bloggers. We stay in touch on Twitter and Facebook most of the time. And we know how to laugh while we’re working too. We make up hashtags on Twitter and keep them going for back and forth for a while. For example I may write a tweet about being busy and add this hashtag #buriedundermyblog. Then a few other bloggers will pick up on it. Maybe we’ll try to be get one up on each other by tweeting about who actually has the most work. I guess you have to be there! But, it breaks up the day and helps us to laugh instead of stress about work.

I do meet up once a month with local bloggers for lunch and a meeting too. And let me tell you, you never know what to expect when we’re all together! Most of the time, we talk about serious things, but we do end up laughing a lot too as we talk about our work.

I had the opportunity to see a preview of Game Time: Tackling the Past and plan on watching it again with my family on Saturday night. Although I’m not a football fan, I truly enjoyed the movie. There was a lot of football practices, parts of games, and talk about pro-football, but it was easy to understand. The acting and the deeper story got me hooked. This is a real family movie with no adult language, innuendos or explicit scenes.

Starring Ryan McPartlin as Jake Walker, the pro-football player who hasn’t been back to his hometown or his family for 15 years. He’s in the peak of his career when he gets a phone call from his brother, Dean that his father (played by Beau Bridges) had a heart attack. Jake immediately leaves football practice to go back home to North Carolina, expecting to stay a few days. He learns that his father is much sicker than he thought, needs surgery and ends up staying longer.

Jake has to face his past, a troubling disagreement with his father and the family and friends he left behind, all while worrying about his father’s health. In the mean time, Jake learns that his contract with his current team won’t be renewed – a shock to him. As his agent works on getting him on another team, Jake begins to see his family and his hometown in a new light. He opens up more to his mother (played by Catherine Hicks) and his father about his feelings. Suddenly, his agent shows up with an offer from a new team and he has a decision to make. Will Jake go with the money and fame he’s used to or go back to the lessons he’s learned from his family?

Back in the day, I dated guys that people would consider geeks. I thought they were cute in an innocent way. And I guess I was considered geeky, since I put my foot in my mouth so often and definitely went through those awkward teenage years. The word “nerd” was used more often then, but it really meant the same.

I’m a huge fan of the Big Bang Theory because of the characters and how they interact with each other, the witty banter and the way some of the geeks try to fit in with the non-geeks. I loved the relationship between Leonard and Penny because it dramatizes the ultra geek and ultra chic getting along and learning from each other. Leonard has an IQ of 173, is a physicist and got his PHD at the age of 24. Although Leonard is amazingly smart, his idea of a good time is speaking Klingon and using his whiteboard for experiments. He is trying to break out of the mold of geek and Penny helps him. Penny is a waitress, who wants to be an actress. Her intelligence is put to the test whenever she’s around Leonard, but her street smarts always win out.  She’s always out and up on the latest fads, especially when it comes to dating.

After Leonard awkwardly kisses her, Penny takes a long time to realize that she does indeed have feelings for him. Unfortunately it happens when he’s at the North Pole for three months. Upon his return, Penny and Leonard begin a relationship where two cultures clash. But they develop a bond where they help each other out bringing out the best in both of them. I won’t tell you what happens next, but you can get the 4th Season of the Big Bang Theory on DVD and learn to love your inner geek or yourself in general. All with lots of humor and good fun.

That has to beat all of the break up lines I’ve ever heard and I’ve heard some doozies. We’ve all heard about needing space or needing to find myself. Have you ever heard of breaking up because your family doesn’t like your significant other? That hurts. What about, “I need to break up with you because you deserve better?” Yeah, sure!

Then there’s the “we can still be friends” breakup. When I’ve heard that in the past, all I can think of is run away as far as you can! I never wanted to be friends with someone who broke up with me. At least that’s trying to be nice. Hateful breakups are the worst. The ones when people leave a voice mail message or a text instead of saying it face to face, especially if it was a long relationship. The ones where clothing is burned, cars are scratched and the police are called.

One thing is for sure, there’s no reason to break up with Childrens Hospital on Adult Swim. Each episode brings something new and funny.

There comes a time when you just have to escape everyday life. That happened to me right after I returned from a vacation from Hawaii. I know, you’re thinking just how much time does she need to get away from it all? First you have to hear about my trip to understand.

It took 4 flights to get to our hotel. My mother got sick on one of the flights but didn’t tell anyone. By the next morning, our first full day in Hawaii, she was short of breath and not making sense. She had to be brought by ambulance to the hospital. The doctor couldn’t figure out what was wrong with her after about 4 hours in the emergency room.

We were all scared out of our minds. She felt sick the whole time we were there and spent most of the time sleeping. She hardly ate at all and was very weak. We dreaded the flights to return home.

When we did get home, I realized by the second day, that she was back to being out of it. She ended up back in the hospital. They still couldn’t figure out what was wrong. We had jetlag, hadn’t unpacked and were so worried. I just wanted to escape from everyday life and pretend my mother was fine.

She did end up fine. The only thing the doctor could think of was that she had trouble handling flying too much and the time change.
