Blog Action Day – Falling Between The Cracks

I've been there. I had a child and a house and a car, but had very little money coming in. My child support payments were non-existent. I had been hurt on the job and Workers' Comp payments barely made my bills and were always late. We were running out of food but I wasn't eligible for food stamps. I bought the least expensive food I could. I applied for free lunch for my daughter at her school. I cut coupons, stopped our cable TV, the newspaper, the extras on our phone, eating out, renting movies, everything I could think of to save money. But I still ran out of food each week. I was … [Read more...]

Fundraiser and Movie With PTSO

Tonight Peanut's school PTSO had a fundraiser for All Children's Hospital. We had a Movie and Pizza night. There was a $2 donation requested to see the movie Cars, as much pizza as you could eat, popcorn and lemonaide or gatoraide. I'm proud to be a part of a school organization that not only strives to provide for all of the children at our school but for worthy non-profits too. At our last meeting we voted to pay for a field trip for a child whose parents could not afford it. This is happening more and more as the unemployment rate in our county is skyrocketing. School Open House

Tomorrow's the day. We're off to Open House at Peanut's school. I'll be there as three persons in one, Mom, PTSO volunteer and church volunteer. I'll be getting there early to help set up the Open House which not only allows parents to meet their childn's teacher but provides us with information from the community's social services. There will be table set up in the cafeteria or multi-purpose room as it's called where the different agencies will provide information. My church is going to presenting information on our Food Pantry, our Chronic Illness Support Group and our Single Mothers … [Read more...]

Walk To Help Remember

Alzheimer's is a terrible disease. When I worked as a Home Health Social Worker, I've seen how intelligent, vibrant people change so drastically. Some became unable to feed themselves. Some became combative. Some would wander by getting out of their own homes and then get lost. Some would seem fine until you tried to have a conversation with them. Families were devastated by this disease too. Seeing a family member change before your eyes and having to make decisions about caring for that person is difficult to say the least. There have been a lot of advances in research concerning … [Read more...]

Bloggers Unite – Stop Sex Slavery

I learned about sex slaves and human trafficking from watching a documentary on TV a while back. More recently, Natalie Grant, a Contemporary Christian music singer has spoken about this issue and has helped bring it to the forefront for many people. She and her husband visited India and saw some terrible things that caused her to become an advocate for women and children held in sexual slavery. She uses her celebrity status to teach how we can help prevent this atrocity. She also wants to spread the news that this occurs in the United States and in other countries that we may travel to … [Read more...]
