A Day Off From Blogging
March 12th, 2010Yesterday I took a day off from blogging. It wasn’t planned, but because it was my birthday I thought I deserved it. After a relaxing day not writing a blog post, ignoring my emails and not touching my laptop (does my iPhone count?), I realized I need to do this to stay sane.
A day off from blogging is not something unusual. Most people that work full time, have 2 days off every week. Why, then, do I feel that I have to be online every day of the week? Is it because I’m afraid that my blog stats will drop, or if I’m not on Twitter or Facebook that I’ll lose social media points? Will I miss an email that offers me the sponsorship I’ve been dreaming of?

Let’s get real, the interwebs won’t miss me for a day each week. If there’s an important email, it will still be there the next day. I feel more motivated after shutting down for a day. I can collect my thoughts and be a better writer after this short break. I’m more motivated too. Plus my family was thrilled to have me around completely, in body and mind.
I’m planning on taking that one day off from blogging every week now. I’ll schedule a blog post and hang out for the day, spend more time reading, playing with my daughter, talking with my husband and doing something just for me. Is this something that you do? I’d love to hear your thoughts on taking a day off from blogging and unplugging.

I’m a wife and mom of two daughters. My daughters are 12 years apart so that keeps me quite busy and a little crazy at times. My life is a jumble of mixed up mishaps, but it’s always centered around my family.
