• About

I’m a wife and mom of two daughters. My daughters are 12 years apart so that keeps me quite busy and a little crazy at times. My life is a jumble of mixed up mishaps, but it’s always centered around my family.

    Best Mother’s Day Present

    May 5th, 2010

The best Mother’s Day present for me this year is that I’ll have my whole family together on Mother’s Day. My daughter Alicia and her husband Scott are coming in from Kansas that day. We’re driving to the airport to pick them up and then going out to eat.

They’ll be staying with me and my mother for a few days then heading to Orlando for a friend’s wedding. We’re getting the house ready for them so they’ll be comfy. I looked at some corner tv stands so they can watch television before while they’re in bed.

We’re off to Disney the next weekend so we can spend as much time with them as possible. I intend to make my Mother’s Day last a week!

My Job Chart Free Online Site

    May 3rd, 2010

My Job Chart is a free online site where I can assign chores and rewards for my daughter. There’s a list of chores to choose from along with a calendar to I can set up the days of the week that I want Sammi to feed the cats, set the table and take the dishes out of the dishwasher. We choose the rewards together that she gets at the end of the week for completing her chores.

The lists are customizable, meaning that I can add chores and rewards and assign them for every day, or just 3 days per week and even add if they are to be done in the AM, PM or both, etc. Each chore or job is worth points and the points can be adjusted as well.

We each get our own profile with a photo and log in info. When Sammi completes her chores at the end of the day she logs in and checks them off. Her points are added up and I get a summary email each day. At the end of the week, I know exactly what reward(s) she is entitled to.

This online chore chart makes keeping track of chores and rewards easy. It keeps Sammi accountable because she can see exactly what she is to do and is responsible for checking off when she is done. The site helped both of us decide on chores that were out of the ordinary for her and rewards we wouldn’t have thought of normally too.

My Job Chart helps keep my family running more smoothly. Since it’s online, where we both spend a lot of time, my daughter and I are more motivated to use it than a regular chart.

I took part in a campaign run my Mom Select for My Job Chart and am entered to win a gift card.

    U By Kotex And Periods

    May 1st, 2010

U by Kotex is handling protection for periods in a unique way. Their advertising is creating quite a stir and getting conversations started among both females and males.  Their commercials are hysterical but get some good messages across too and their products are made with women, especially tweens and teens, in mind.

Here’s one of my favorite U by Kotex commercials:

I like that it was sarcastic and ridicules what women want in tampons. With commercials like this, it makes it easier to talk to about having your period and using tampons or pads. There’s no need to hide this information from girls or boys. It’s a fact of life.

I’ve spoken openly to my daughter about what to expect when getting her period. I used the correct anatomical terms and discussed what to do if she gets her period and I’m not with her. She feels comfortable to ask me questions which is a big difference from what it was like when I was younger. She feels prepared about getting her period since we’ve spoken about it and continue to. That makes me feel good.

I found a quiz about myths and facts of your period that you can take with your daughter and a free app for your iPhone or iPod Touch called the U journal where your daughter can record her feelings. These can help, but the most important thing is talking and listening.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Kotex and received products necessary to facilitate my candid review. In addition, Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate

Fisher-Price Moments To Share On Facebook

    April 25th, 2010

Fisher-Price Moments To Share is a new application on Facebook which allows you to add photos of your kids without the worry of everyone seeing them. With just the click of your mouse, you decide who will see your precious photos and videos.

You can also create a time line of memories by grouping your photos and dating them. You have the choice of naming your “moment” or choosing from Fisher-Price list like “First Haircut”, “Summertime Fun”, “Happy 1st Birthday”, etc. It’s easy to upload your photos either from your computer or from your Facebook albums. No need to upload one photo at a time either so you save time.

I’m always taking photos of my daughter Sammi so it’s nice to have one place where I can post them and share them. Since more family and friends are joining Facebook every day, I just invite them to look at the precious photos of Sammi. I’m hoping that they’ll take advantage of this application too.

Add a story about your child’s special moments and you have your own scrapbook to share with your family and friends with Fisher-Price Moments To Share on Facebook.

Disclosure: I was entered for a chance to win a gift card in exchange for this post.  No monetary exchange took place.
