• About

I’m a wife and mom of two daughters. My daughters are 12 years apart so that keeps me quite busy and a little crazy at times. My life is a jumble of mixed up mishaps, but it’s always centered around my family.

Glue Dots To The Rescue Of A Non-Crafty Mom

    June 23rd, 2010

I used to be crafty, really. I did all types of needlework, created crafts after reading about them or being taught them one time, and even came up my own craft ideas. I enjoyed creating things with my children and even sold some of the items I made. I’ve lost it though. I’m not sure what happened, but I’m a non-crafty mom now.

Then Twitter Moms gave me samples of Glue Dots, which are adhesives that are easy to use. They need no drying time and work on items like paper, photos, wood, plastic, metal, fabrics, foam, etc. I received dispensers and perforated sheets in various sizes and for various uses.

My daughter and I wanted to do something special for Father’s Day. We decided to make a centerpiece for the ice cream sundae bar to make it look perfect. The theme for the day was cars, so we chose to make a Drive In Ice Cream Restaurant. We used foam and added toy cars. I had tried foam glue in the past. It’s messy and very hard to use especially when you want to make a tube shape.

This time we used Glue Dots and it turned out awesome! Making this with my daughter was so much fun. We bonded while bonding the foam :) And my husband was so happy to see the finished product.

I wrote this blog post while participating in the TwitterMoms and Glue Dots blogging contest to be eligible to receive a $30 gift card. For more information on how you can participate, click here.

    Fifth Grade Graduation

    June 4th, 2010

Today was Sammi’s Fifth Grade Graduation event. Many excited students, faculty, parents, grandparents and other family members attended despite the morning rain. Sammi has been so excited about this day as my husband and I have been. Unfortunately he couldn’t attend due to work so my mother I went. I took lots of photos though and the video will be available on the school’s website.

The ceremony was very special and included the students as well as the teachers and faculty. There were speeches, awards, a poem read by a number of students and a Power Point presentation of photos and music that the students helped create.  I’m still shocked that I didn’t cry. I seriously don’t know how I kept my emotions inside.

We were able to take Sammi home after the graduation event, so my mother and I took her to lunch. Then she wanted to rent some video games from Blockbuster. We plan on doing something special this weekend and taking her to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter during the summer.

This is the last year in this elementary school. It’s the same one that Alicia attended so I’ve been involved with it for years. It will be sad to leave, but that’s how life goes, especially as your children grow.

There’s still 4 more days of school, with early release each day. Then summer begins! Happy Fifth Grade Graduation Sammi!

    Tonsils and Adenoids In Children

    June 1st, 2010

We’re learning a lot about tonsils and adenoids in children since Sammi has been sick and on antibiotics so often these last 6 months. Sammi has allergies to almost everything, is on 3 prescription medications for allergies and gets allergy shots now for about 8 months. She was supposed to feel better after getting her allergy shots and be able to lower her prescription doses, but that hasn’t happened.

We visited  her allergist and after a thorough examination and history and another antibiotic prescription for a sinus infection, she had an x-ray of her adenoids. No need to have her tonsils x-rayed since she they can be seen as being huge. Well her adenoids are enlarged too.

Next step is a visit to an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) doctor. She may end up having her tonsils and adenoids removed over the summer in an attempt to stop these infections. I’d love to hear from anyone who’s child has gone through this surgery. First of all, how did the doctor decide whether or not to do the surgery? How long was the recovery? Any advice?

It’s one thing to research about tonsils and adenoids than to hear about it first hand from others.
