Aubrey’s 4th Birthday Western Shindig

I am proud to be an Oriental Trading ambassador and received product to facilitate this post. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

Yesterday, I mentioned the little one turned 4. Seriously, she’s FOUR y’all! Where did the time go? It seems like this was just yesterday!

It definitely doesn’t feel like that photo was taken four years ago, but it’s time to come to terms with my baby growing up on me, even if I’m not ready for her to yet.

We celebrated the big 0-4 with a Western Shindig, per little Miss Big Girl’s request. What is it with both of my kids requesting cowgirl/western themed parties for their 4th? Then again, they are little country girls! Anyway, as usual, I waited until the last minute to plan the party, but my go to party supply, Oriental Trading, came through once again. I found everything I needed to decorate for a themed birthday party in one location, and you really can’t beat Oriental Trading’s prices!

Anyone who knows me knows I loathe goody bags filled with a bunch of junk that will break in a day or two. But, I’m not opposed to giving the party guests a treat for joining us. I may have gone a little overboard this year! Oriental Trading has super cute cowboy boot shaped plastic mugs in their western tableware section, and as soon as I saw them I was struck with an idea. We could cut down on disposable cup waste by giving each kid a cowboy boot mug! I took it a step further by using my handy dandy Silhouette Cameo to personalize each cup with a vinyl name.

When the Silhouette comes out to play, I get carried away, so lots of crafting ensued. In the end, I had cowboy boot mugs for all the kids and needed something for the parents to drink from. So, I made personalized tumblers for the adults. I didn’t stick with the western theme for the moms, and all the tumblers were a big hit.

You can’t have a western shindig without western gear, so I made each kid a wild west sheriff’s badge t-shirt to go with their hats and bandanas. I made an exception for our older guest by making her a 4th of July themed shirt she can wear later, something that didn’t feel so “little kid”, and I let Aubrey pick out her own birthday girl shirt design.

Oriental Trading also had inflatable stick horses that were a big hit! We corralled them in a cardboard box until the kids turned them into pool toys. I rounded out the party with lots of bandana print decor, red, blue, and red and white checkered tablecloth and napkins. I was definitely thinking ahead to our upcoming 4th of July party, and I will use some of the decorations and extras along with some 4th of July themed items I also picked up from Oriental Trading!

Normally I would carry the western theme into the food as well, but the birthday girl wasn’t in the mood for chili and such. She only had one party food request. We had to get a 28″ Atlas pizza from her favorite pizza joint (where her MomMom works), Columbo’s Pizza. I tried to counterbalance it with lots of yummy fruit, but my mindset is it’s perfectly okay to throw the health food out the window for party day! Boy, was the Atlas delicious!

Overall I would say everyone had a great time. There was lots of food, goodies, swimming, and fun with friends and family.

All the kids had a blast, even if they were all super tired by photo time. The birthday girl was definitely happy, and that’s what matters, right?

Maybe next time the rain will hold off in the weeks before so we can actually finish painting the deck before pool party time!

I honestly wish we could party every weekend with this awesome bunch of friends and family, but life gets in the way of that. I can’t wait to do it all again soon! And, I’ll definitely be decorating with Oriental Trading for the next one! I love one stop party supply shopping at a great price!
