It’s a Stay at Home Kind of Weekend

We have been so busy over the past two weeks with birthdays, holidays, and end of school functions, and it has totally wiped me out. Friday I picked Ellie up from school, made a quick trip to the grocery store, and declared the weekend “Stay Home Weekend”. We will venture out Monday for a Memorial Day celebration with our extended family, but until then we’re staying home and enjoying the weekend at home…just the four of us.

We spent most of the day outside while the kids splashed in the kiddie pool or ran around the yard. There were many adventures through the “secret garden” otherwise known as the really full mimosa trees covering a path behind the house that Ben hasn’t gotten around to trimming lately. I’m definitely adding that to his honey do list for next weekend, but for now the girls are enthralled with the canopy created by the leaves hanging over the pathway and the honeysuckle running down the fence.

Aubrey filled her bug catcher net with so many rollie pollies I lost count, and I finally decided it was time to head inside for some ice cream after I rescued a lizard from the net. She was trying to sneak it inside so it would live in her dollhouse! Oh the mind of an almost 3 year old!

After dinner we headed back outside to catch lightning bugs until the mosquitoes chased us back inside for bath time. Rollie pollies and lightning bugs…my southern is really coming out right now! We ended the evening with everyone curling up on the couch and watching one of the girls’ PBS DVD’s until they both drifted off to sleep.

Saturday turned out to be exactly what we all needed to unwind after these busy weeks, and I see us doing much of the same tomorrow.
