DIY Peppermint Stripes Sugar Scrub with Simply Earth Essential Oil #simplyearth

I received free product to facilitate this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Do you make handmade gifts for the holidays? I love gifting my friends and family with something handmade because I feel like handmade gifts are more meaningful. This year my 6 year old practically melted my heart when she announced to her Dad and I that she was going to make gifts for everyone in the family. She colored cards for everyone, made a few ornaments, and but that wasn’t enough for her.

We’ve been searching for something to make together (double score on the 1 on 1 Mommy/Daughter time). When I received a bottle of Simply Earth Peppermint Essential Oil to sample I knew exactly what we could do with it, make some Candy Cane Sugar Scrub! Not only is sugar scrub super cheap to make, but it’s also super easy for a younger kid like Ellie. In fact, she did most of the work herself. I’ll tell you how to make this easy sugar scrub, but first let’s talk about the Simply Earth.

About Simply Earth:

I was immediately drawn to the Simply Earth brand as soon as I learned the company donates 13% of profits to help end human trafficking. I love companies that are working towards social good and selling a great product, so I couldn’t wait to try these oils. The prices are really fair, too. The Simply Earth Peppermint Essential Oil is $6 for a 15ml bottle! That’s 100% pure undiluted, too!

About Peppermint Oil:

Peppermint oil has many therapeutic properties, and can be used for many ailments. It is analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and antiviral. Peppermint is great for clearing up stuffy noses and even works at a pain reliever. Plus, it just smells so wonderful!

I was pleasantly surprised at how potent this peppermint oil is. I’ve tried much more expensive brands that are much less potent. Just a few drops go a long way! I have been using this in my diffuser while my daughter has had a cold, and it has worked wonderfully to clear up her stuffy nose.

DIY Peppermint Stripes Sugar Scrub:

Boutique sugar scrubs can get expensive, but it’s surprisingly easy to make your own at home for much less! All you need is sugar, coconut or olive oil, an essential oil, and an air tight container. Sugar scrubs help add moisture to your skin, especially during the dry winter months, and they leave your skin feeling soft and smooth.

To make Peppermint Stripe Sugar Scrub we used:

Divide the sugar in half in 2 separate containers. Add 5 drops of red food coloring to one container of sugar and mix. Repeat until you achieve your desired color. We used 18 drops of red food coloring for a dark pink color. Add half the coconut or olive oil to each container of sugar and mix. If you desire a dryer sugar scrub use a bit less oil, and more oil for an oilier scrub. Add approximately 10 drops of Simply Nature Peppermint Essential Oil to each container, and stir. Adjust according to your own scent preference.

Add a layer of pink scrub to your jar and pack tightly. Add a layer of white scrub and pack tightly. Repeat until jar is full. Store tightly closed.

If you’re in need of a last minute gift idea these make great gifts that last about a month. We’ll be gifting all the ladies in our family with a jar of her own with a handmade tag letting each one know it was specially crafted by Ellie.
