I’m a fan of the Sundance channel and have dreamed of attending their festival. I get a taste of Indie films, but want more. With IndieFlix, my obsession is filled. Right now, one of the featured films on IndieFlix is “Finding Kind”. The anti-bullying message hits home, but the take on female bullying is innovative.
Best friends and filmmakers, Lauren Parsenkian and Molly Thompson, both victims of bullying travel across America to create their independent film. Their goal is to meet with groups of girls to gain momentum for an anti-bullying campaign. Starting as a group discussion, girls are then given the opportunity to make a confessional tape about how bullying has affected them.
The most dramatic and touching part of “Finding Kind” are these private moments with young women, speaking from the heart about the damage of being bullied. I admit that I cried along with some of these girls. So many of us have been the subject of gossip, lies, taunting and threats. With cyber-bullying added to the list, the damage continues at home and increases in intensity.
The filmmakers also interviewed experts, including Jessica Weiner spokeswoman for the Dove campaigns, to speak about solutions for female bullying. In the end, the Kind campaign was an outcome of this independent film.
