Kids Play with KaBOOM and Facebook Contest

KaBOOM! is all about kids and play. They are a nonprofit that focuses on creating playspaces for children in the United States. Their goal is to end “The Play Deficit” caused by lack of playgrounds and more screen time and less movement time.

Kaboom! Helps Kids Play

Communities are fearful of constructing or improving their play areas because of the possibility of accidents and lawsuits. Schools are cutting back or ending recess. Although KaBOOM’s website doesn’t mention it, I’m sure that there is a lack of funds for playgrounds in many areas of the country as well.

When children don’t play they miss out on the fun and excitement of childhood. Think back to skipping, sliding, catching and how carefree you felt. Just being outdoors helped you feel cheerful. You had a group of friends who you socialized with. Learning to share and play by the rules was a big part of play too.

KaBOOM! helps community volunteers build playgrounds in just one day. Their focus is on the children, but in turn it helps the community as a whole. They have other programs, all about play.

I can’t wait for the weather to warm up so we can get back outside again and to the park! I know that my son is starting to get a bit of cabin fever.

What a great program! I feel lucky that this trend hasn’t hit our small town yet. We just redid the local playground and it is fabulous! I wouldn’t want to see any community lose their playgrounds though.
