Online Reputation Management For Dummies Book Review

Online Repuation Management for Dummies Book

Whatever we do online is there forever. One small thing can tarnish your status. The book, Online Reputation Management For Dummies teaches individuals, small businesses and large corporations to prevent problems and monitor for them.

Written by Lori Randall Stradtman, this book follows the well-known “For Dummies” format which makes it easy to follow and put into practice. First, describing what an online reputation is you are given steps to creating, monitoring and supervising what others are saying about you online. Ms. Stadtman also instructs that perceptions are just as important as negative feedback.

I learned a lot from reading this book. I took notes and bookmarked the areas I want to go back to and work on. I especially liked that a whole section of the book is about establishing your reputation. This can be done even if you have been online for a while. Suggestions of websites to assist you in your pursuits are right on the money.

Another subject that intrigued me is online privacy and how it ties into your reputation. For example, photos on Facebook can be shared unless you change your settings on each individual photo. Imagine if a photograph of you partying or in some unflattering situation was shared with your potential employer. You’ll learn how to protect your privacy on many of the social media outlets uses often and some that many don’t know exist.

Crisis that can occur from a tweet that was meant to be a direct message, or a post on Google + that includes cuss words, can disrupt your online status. This “how to” book helps you to handle these types of situation either on your own or with a team.

I highly recommend Online Reputation Management for Dummies  for bloggers, those that sell online and small businesses. Much of the work can be done on your own, or hired out for a small amount of money.

Have you  or someone you know had an issue with online reputation? How was it handled?

Disclosure: I received this book for review as a member of the “For Dummies” Ambassador program through Resourceful Media. All opinions are my own as always.
