Giving Tuesday is all about giving back. This first national day of giving will take place on November 27^th, the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

I start planning my holiday shopping plan early so I’ll be ready for Black Friday. It’s all about finding ways to save as much money on the holiday gifts I feel that I need to buy each year. And it’s starting to become a drag.

It takes a lot of energy and time not to mention a lot of money. Even though I tell myself not to spend so much each year, I still spend too much.

Thank goodness, there’s a shining light in all of this. Every holiday season, my family and I choose at least two charities to give back to. It’s been a family tradition even when I was a single mother and was living on the poverty level.

I don’t say this to brag, but to share with you how this makes us feel. It brings my family closer together as we choose the non-profits and what to give. It humbles as we see people that have so little. It brings us contentment. That’s not a cliché. It’s the absolute truth. It doesn’t matter if we donate money and never see the outcome, or if we bring donations in person and share in the celebration. It’s such an uplifting feeling. And to us, that’s what the holiday season is all about any way.

And that’s what Giving Tuesday is going to accomplish. This special day is set aside for us to focus on being charitable and thinking of others in need. Give back on your own, with your family or with your community. Learn about different ways to help out and give back. And celebrate Giving Tuesday!
