The Dove Movement for Self-Esteem moves on this month and tackles the issue of cyber-bullying especially during this back to school season. My tween daughter is taking virtual classes for school this year so she’s spending even more time online. She also has her first cell phone with texting. With both changes comes the increased probability of cyber-bullying.
Dove has an extremely helpful tool-kit for young women, A Girl’s Guide to the Digital World – How to Log off Digital Drama! It teaches tweens and teens how to handle themselves online, what to share and how to deal with cyber-bullying. It is written for young women, using terms they understand and makes a great conversation starter for mothers and daughters.
Although I have had these types of discussions with my tween already, peer pressure and temptation can easily take over when texting and making friends online and wrong decisions can be made. We’ve seen how sharing the wrong type of photo with just one person can become viral. We’ve read newspaper articles about how rumors travel quickly online and cause extreme sadness and worse.
Dove’s tool-kit can prevent these serious issues through education and follow-up conversations. When we teach our tweens and model good online behavior our daughters can feel confident about dealing with problems that may arise. They know they can turn to us for help and guidance. And their self-esteem will grow with these new skills.
Please note that Dove has other tool-kits available for free download.
Disclosure: I am partnering with Dove for the Dove Movement for Self-Esteem Campaign. Although I am being compensated for writing posts, I strongly believe in this project.

Yet another reason I adore Dove.
My kids aren’t quite old enough to be there yet, but it’s something that I’m already worried about how to handle. Cyber-parenting isn’t something you can call your mom to ask about. Definitely going to check out that toolkit. Thank you so much for posting!
