The Dove Self-Esteem Movement, which is focusing on real role models, is hard at work on Facebook with a new app called “Recognize Her”. This app allows you to choose a woman you know who deserve to be famous – friends, family members, mentors. Just click on the link in the app (shown below), add her name and a custom message. She will then be notified that you consider her famous.
This simple act does so much. It puts the spotlight on women who inspire us for what they do and not what they look like.
When you make your choice, discuss it with your daughter or another young woman in your life. Better yet, have her nominate whom she believes should be famous. Listen to her reasons. Guide her gently. Discuss the qualities of famous woman in the media and the qualities of real women who inspire her.
Look over the “Next Generation of Real Role Models” on the Dove Facebook page. Read their stories, tips for success, and watch their videos. You’ll find a mathematician, a chemist, an entrepreneur, and an activist among others. These are women who have fought the odds, are accomplished and stand out from the crowd for their enthusiasm, their intelligence and their spirit. Girls, tweens and teens will be inspired. I have no doubt. And in the end, the woman they choose to call famous won’t be fashion models, pop stars or reality stars.
Real women: mothers, teachers, authors, scientists, business owners, professors, mentors, etc. can make life long changes in young women. Through their actions, their concern for others, their zeal to accomplish they motivate girls to be follow their dreams.
As the mother of two daughters, I understand the importance of being a role model. Dove’s Self-Esteem Movement gives me more tools to encourage and inspire my daughters. “Dove® is committed to building positive self-esteem, and inspiring all women and girls to reach their full potential….”
Go to Dove’s Recognize Her app today and nominate someone you know who is famous for all of the right reasons and share why with others.
Who did you nominate and why?
Disclosure: I am partnering with Dove for the Dove Movement for Self-Esteem Campaign. Although I am being compensated for writing posts, I strongly believe in this project.

Embassy Suites is our fave place to stay in DC. They have a great happy hour and the free breakfast is unbelievable. Such a great way to start a day of exploration. The location is straight down the street from the Smithsonians/mall — just a few short blocks so you’ll rarely need to drive. And the room layout is perfect for a quick vacation with your family.

I think this is a fabulous movement. We definitely need to recognize women who have done something great. I like that Dove tries to highlight women who have.
