Get the Most of your Vacation with Embassy Suites

Embassy Suites partnered with Parents Magazine to learn about the vacation habits of families. Are you a Dabbler, Extender, Maximizer or Accumulator? Once you learn what each type of vacationer you are, Embassy Suites wants you to get the most of your family vacation.

The study showed that most families (56%)  are “dabblers”, They take vacations days once in while through the year. Extenders (27%) add on vacation days to school or work holidays. Maximizers (13%) take long, extended vacations. Accumulators (only 4%) save up vacation days until the last minute. Where do you fit it? Usually those who can’t take time for family vacations don’t have time because of work responsibilities and other types of commitments. But you can still make the most of your vacation.

My family and I are Extenders who take trips around my husband’s time off from work, my daughter’s school holidays and my conferences. We stay close to home for short trips and try to travel farther when there is longer time off. About 5 long weekends and two long (1 week or a little bit more) vacations are common.

We get the most out of family vacations by planning in advance and including our daughter in our plans. We use online sites, especially the hotel websites to get in vacation mode, review the area we’re visiting and allow our daughter to choose a place to eat or an activity or two. We count down the days to our trip to get even more excited than we are already.

During our trips, we take photos to help us keep the memory of our time together alive for years. We take time to relax and enjoy the new places we visit. Although we enjoy the finer things in life, we’re happy to give up on extras to be able to stay away longer.

Embassy Suites also partnered with Dr. Susan Biali, a health and happiness expert to give families tips on how to “more–mimize” their vacations. Here are some of her tips:

  • Think about and plan your vacation to increase your mood and make you more productive at work.
  • Use your vacation time to actually relax and have fun. Leave the work and errands behind.
  • Get more out of your vacation with less money. Embassy Suites is one the best hotel chains because you get a large room (2 room suite) with free breakfast and free manager reception.

Embassy Suites wants your family to get the best out of your vacation with their Get More contest on Facebook and enter to win a week-long family vacation package!
