Dove Movement for Self-Esteem Role Models #DoveInspired

The Third Annual Dove Movement for Self-Esteem campaign is starting off by providing girls, tweens and teens with information on positive female role models to emulate and help them reach their full potential. Role models make a positive difference in the lives of others, even if it’s just one person.

Encouraging female role models are real women: professionals, those working in the STEM fields – science, technology, engineering and mathematics, those working in male dominated fields, mothers (biological, adoptive, foster step-mothers and anyone who takes on that role) and women who focus on being kind to others, including strangers or their own family.

With a tween daughter of my own, I do my best to inform her about positive role models, but the media, including TV, movies and the internet Dove Movement for Self-Esteem Bannercan outdo my work too easily. It’s an ongoing battle. I use books, news channels, newspapers, the Dove website and the Dove YouTube site to help me out.

Dove wants these women to be famous! Instead of looking up to women who are famous based on beauty; let’s teach young women to be inspired by women who are intelligent, take a stance that is different from others and who are kind. Tomorrow, June 9 take part in the Girl Scouts Rock The Mall livestream on Facebook with Mandy Moore. (RSVP to attend.) She’ll be recognizing role models and you’ll have the chance to chat and comment on the performers.

On June 10, the first video in the series of “Real Women” will go live on the Dove Facebook page and you can give a shout out to the female role models in your life. A new video will be introduced each week, so be sure to check it out. You’re sure to be inspired! The past videos have been touching and encouraging.
