Getting Ready to See Mickey Mouse #DisneySMMoms

It’s almost time to see Mickey Mouse and fellow bloggers during the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration! There are always entertainment and delectable dining, fascinating sessions, networking opportunities and time to shop. As we get our packing done, let’s get our minds ready for what’s to come.

Entertainment and Dining

Even though we received our itineraries, be ready for surprises. Characters will join us during dinners, surprise guests will show up during our conference, and our swag bags will be amazing. Keep your cameras handy. It always feels good when we don’t have to worry that someone will laugh when we take photos of our food. Have a video camera in your pocket. You may get the chance to interview someone you’d only dream of. Taste the “different” food and sneak some to your children. Don’t expect the ordinary.

Sessions

We were given information about our breakout sessions and signed up for them. The explanation we received was to the point, but I promise you it will be better than you can imagine, even better than descriptions you may have read from others. Taking part personally is nothing like being on the sidelines.

The conference day is the same. Sitting with a group of other people associated with social media, meeting some for the first time, is an experience all unto itself. Try to absorb every minute, if possible. Take a lot of photos because there will be tons of smiles, laughter and perhaps some tears. Listening to our speakers and asking questions will help us grow as business owners, as social media strategists, as bloggers and as people.

Networking

For every person that you know, introduce yourself to three that you don’t. Ask them questions – Where are you from? What do you do? What’s the favorite thing you’ve done so far? (Just some ideas) Don’t be intimidated to talk with the speakers. They are interested in getting to know you. They are real people just like us. During Disney Social Media Moms, 2010, I had breakfast with Chris Brogan and Scott Statten. Sit with new people each dinner. Of course you probably have a friend or two that you want to spend time with, but add a place for others. Look out for those, especially newbies that seem lost and invite them to hang out.

Shopping

Many people can’t go to Disney World and not shop. I’m one of them. I love to add to my Mickey Mouse collection. But, check your swag bag before you hit the stores.

The Disney Social Media Moms Celebration is a conference and party rolled into one, set in the happiest place on earth. I look forward to spending it with you.
