Portion Control and Healthy Eating #under500

As I continue on the road to healthy eating, the next thing I’m focusing on is portion control. I am a stress eater and when I’m stressed out, I just eat and eat. I trick myself into believing that I’m not eating that much, but looking back on what I really do, it’s a lot of food.

My Eating Style

My eating style is to eat while I’m on my laptop and in while I’m watching TV. I get up from the desk or couch and grab a small snack. Eat it. Wait a while. Get up to get another snack. Eat it. And this goes on and on. Three things are wrong here:

  1. I’m not thinking about what I’m eating.
  2. I’m not eating low calorie snacks.
  3. This is a habit.

Changing My Eating Style

After writing down what I ate for one day, I’ve realized the large amount of snacks I’ve eaten and I’m shocked. This is what I’m working on now:

  1. Either writing down the amount of food or keeping the wrappers from what I’ve eaten.
  2. Eating while I’m not doing anything else. If I get hungry, I put the laptop aside, or sit at the kitchen table and eat.
  3. Focus on the taste of the food.
  4. Eat more portion controlled meals and snacks.

Help With Portion Control

Marie Callendar’s Under 500 Calorie Meals is a huge help. The Complete Meals include one or two sides and are perfect for dinner. This week I ate the Stuffed Pasta Medley, which includes manicotti, shell and raviolis with marinara sauce and a side of broccoli. With only 430 calories and real Italian taste, this meal is filling and so delicious. Eating meals like this is the perfect way for me to work on portion control and healthy eating.

What About You

If you have problems with portion control, how do you handle it?

I’m working on a campaign with Marie Callender’s and TheMotherHood and received coupons for this meal and will receive a stipend for my work. All opinions are my own.
