Math Blaster Review and Giveaway

My daughter was thrilled when she learned we had the opportunity to review Math Blaster and run a giveaway. She’s been a fan of Math Blaster for a while now and had an account, but wasn’t a member. And with her new difficulties with learning math, having extra work to make up and a teacher who visits her at home to help with math, she’s been looking for a fun way to improve her math skills. She found them at Math Blaster!

What is Math Blaster?

Math Blaster is one of the educational games created by Knowledge Adventure, who has been in of business for 15 years. They create games for use in the home and in schools, including  JumpStart.com, which is well known among teachers, parents and children. Math Blaster is a virtual online world for children aged 6 – 12 with the emphasis on building math skills.

The virtual world is based on outer space and the future and is called the Intergalactic Space Patrol (ISP). Members create their own avatar, called a Blaster. They then become a cadet in the ISP, taking on missions and challenges (games). Cadets can increase their rank and uniform as their math skills increase.

Why My Daughter Likes About Math Blaster

My daughter enjoyed making her own avatar as she chose her hair style, eyes, mouth, and height. She has a Monster Mutt, which is an alien-like pet who she had to work on to incubate and now has to care for. Her favorite game is Alien Wrangler, where she rides an alien like a bull rider. She chooses from addition, subtraction, division or multiplication and then a level. Once the timed game begins, the more correct answers she gets and the faster she answers them, the more points she gains and the longer she plays. If she gets an incorrect answer, or doesn’t answer in time, the Alien begins to move faster and it’s harder for her to hang on.

She also enjoys the ability that there are multi-player games, as she enjoys the competition and the ability to chat.  Since my daughter is a computer geek, learning through this type of technology is something she enjoys, even with math. In real life, math is chore and something she sometimes dreads, but on Math Blaster, math is fun! And I can see her improving her math skills.

Parental Controls and Safety

I have control over what she is able to do on Math Blaster – whether she can take part in multi-player games, safe chat and who can be on her her friends list. I’m also provided a game guide which shows me what games help specific math skills, and the ability to update our information. No members’ private information is shared on Math Blaster. And, no need to worry about chat, because with Safe Type Chat only certain words or phrases are allowed.

Membership is offered monthly ($7.99), annually ($74.99), or lifetime ($149.99).
