Marie Callender’s Pot Pie Homemade Taste Test

I conducted my own Marie Callender’s Pot Pie homemade taste test. I’ve eaten  chicken pot pies since I was a girl, both frozen and homemade. So I know pot pies.

Marie Callender's Pot Pie

One of the favorite parts of a pot pie is the crust. Marie Callender’s has a crust that is flaky and can hold its own when mixed with the filling. It’s made from scratch and is not only a topping, but is on the bottom of the pie as well.

Pot Pie

I chose the Creamy Mushroom Chicken Pot Pie, made white meat chicken, broccoli, carrots and portabello mushrooms. It is 16.5 oz. and is an entire meal for me. Perfect for when I’m not in the mood to cook  (which is most of the time), or when I want something different from what my husband and daughter are eating for dinner.

I’ve had a similar pot pie from a restaurant and really enjoyed it because of the type of sauce and the addition of the portabello mushrooms. It’s a hardy meal. Marie Callender’s lived up the homemade pot pie from the restaurant and the other homemade pot pies I’ve eaten before. The vegetables taste fresh and the sauce is delicious. I don’t think there’s any way that frozen chicken can, especially when it’s in a sauce, taste like homemade and even with Marie Callender’s this is the case. Their white meat chicken, though, is much better than other brands of frozen pot pies I’ve had before. I’d also love more portabello mushrooms.

Chicken Pot Pie

Since Marie Callender’s pot pies are so large, you can eat half with a side salad and save the other half for another time. Enjoy two meals in one! This is especially true with the Creamy Mushroom flavor as it is very filling.

Other choices available are: Beef Pot Pie, Cheesy Chicken Pot Pie, Chicken Pot Pie, Creamy Parmesan Pot Pie, Honey Roasted Chicken Pot Pie and Turkey Pot Pie. Some are made in both small (10 oz) and large sizes.

What is your favorite pot pie? Have you tasted Marie Callender’s before?

I was provided with a coupon to purchase my pot pie and a stipend from and Marie Callender’s for my post. All opinions are my own.

  1. We love pot pies, and Marie’s are really great, but I have a recipe for a homemade one that is so stinking easy and good that I have a hard time buying them now.

  2. Love the Marie Callender’s Creamy Parmesan Pot Pie!
