Tonsillectomy For Sammi

Sammi is having her tonsillectomy on June 1st. Finally after waiting for over a year, it’s happening. First she was having too many infections and we had to keep putting the actual surgery off, then the sinus tachycardia started, then the narcolepsy was diagnosed.

Tonsillectomy BookWe have our pediatrician (we’ve been seeing the female partner) to thank for this. When I took Sammi to see her to discuss the narcolepsy, I mentioned that Sammi was having low grade fevers. She remembered about her large tonsils and adenoids, and took a look at them. When she considered the allergies, the sinus infections and that Sammi snores, she said it’s time to go through with her tonsillectomy.

Today, I took Sammi to see the ENT to go over what is entailed with getting her tonsils out and get the pre-op paperwork. He examined her and sure enough, she has a sinus infection. Thank goodness we have enough time for a 10 day round of antibiotics.

We also went over her new diagnoses and medications. The doctor feels that both her tonsils and adenoids will be removed. He doesn’t decide until he sees them during surgery, but we already have an ex-ray showing that Sammi has enlarged adenoids.

We’re hoping for a quick recovery, less infections, lessened allergies, no snoring and a better night’s sleep. I’ll keep you informed about Sammi’s tonsillectomy.
