Disney Social Media Moms 2011 – Chris Brogan

Even if I didn’t hear the announcer from Disney Social Media Moms or see Chris Brogan on stage, I’d know him from his greeting, “Sawubona”. Chris is known for using that Zulu word that means “I see you” or that you are recognized. This is important in social media, which is what Chris came to talk about.

Chris Brogan is always an entertaining speaker, someone who knows mom bloggers and understands our value. This is his second time speaking at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. He was so well received last time (I assume) that he was asked to return. So glad that he did. His advice on blogging and social media is on target.

Chris Brogan Speaking At Disney Social Media Moms

It’s fun to keep up with Chris Brogan as he speaks. He uses a phrase, often a humorous one, to get the idea going, then goes into detail. Here’s a breakdown of his blogging and social media advice:

  • Content – Everything can be content
  • Don’t Over Think a Single Blog Post. Good enough is good enough.
  • Ask Yourself “Why?” -  How is the most boring question to answer.
  • Sharing Blog Posts – Don’t over share (don’t say the same thing on Twitter, Facebook and your blog at the same time)
  • Your Blog – Think of your blog as your home base and other sites as outposts.
  • Distribution – Walmart and the mafia have distribution down. (love this!) So use your outposts to bring more readers in.
  • Monetizing – Go on a whim. My bank doesn’t care what my Klout score is.
  • Connecting – Be the go to person.
  • Help raise people up – Don’t be like the crabs in the bucket that pull each other back down. The mom blog sphere is unique in its cattiness.  (Amen Chris! Preach it!)

And here’s Chris Brogan’s CRAP Principal:

  • Connections – Work on your connections or network all the time.
  • Referrals – Referrals are important to business.
  • Attention/Awareness – Do great things and bring awareness and attention to yourself.
  • Presence – Be online and in different place.  Provide content as often as possible.

Chris Brogan is one of the nicest people in social media. Yes, he’s a famous keynote speaker, an author and has over 178,000 Twitter Followers, but say hello to him. Introduce yourself. Ask him a question, share something funny or something about yourself. He’s interested and he’ll take the time to talk both online and in person. His blog and Twitter Feed provide information on blogging and social media as well.

Chris Brogan is the president of Human Business Works, the co-author of Trust Agents: Using the Web to Build Influence, Improve Reputation, and Earn Trust, writes a monthly column in Entrepreneur Magazine and blogs at ChrisBrogan.com

I paid to attend the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. In exchange for my registration fee, I received deeply discounted rates on hotel, park tickets, events, meals, and swag. I am not required nor was I asked to write about the events by Disney or any other brands, celebrities, or speakers affiliated with the event. All opinions are my own.
