Today I vowed to get out of my funk and start off a better week. Yes, it’s Monday, but what better day to get a new outlook on life? I’m not putting my head in the sand and forgetting about the issues I’m facing. I’m not doing too much to stay distracted. I’m being proactive and getting things done so I don’t feel like I’m on the sidelines.
When I dig in and look at problems with new eyes I can do something about it. I may not be able to fix it, but I can give my best try. When it comes to my daughter, I have to do that. And although I have been doing a lot to help her, most of it was done with too much emotion. I wasn’t thinking clearly and felt like I was going in circles. Recognizing this was the first step to my better week and a better life in general.
My plan of action as of today:
- Make an appointment for myself with a counselor. I need someone to talk to about what’s going on in my life, a place to unburden and to get help to learn how to deal with everything in a healthier way.
- Call my Parent Trainer, from the Central Florida Parent Center, to get advice on how to follow through with my daughter’s school.
- Get more organized. I have a folder for all of the school paperwork and medical information. This way I’m not searching for things when I need them. Document all phone calls and interactions with the school. I was supposed to be doing that, but I wasn’t.
- Go to the school to speak directly to the Guidance Counselor.
- Make an appointment with the director of Exceptional Student Eduction for the county. (I tried to do that, but need to call back tomorrow. )
- Make play dates for my daughter with friends that she knows from outside of school to get her back into socializing again.
- Take time out each day for an hour or so for myself.
- Work on not getting frustrated when things don’t go the way I hoped. Life is never going to be easy. Other children have much worse problems. Although I want the best for my daughter, there will be some small bumps in the road and some big hurdles.
I accomplished a lot today. And I’ll do the same tomorrow and the next day. I’ll just keep working at it because I won’t ever give up on my daughter.
Oh and some fantastic news to share! My daughter was able to retake a math test since she’s been moved to the regular math class from the advanced math class and she passed! That means her grade will be changed from an F to a C! She’s off to a good week too.
Have you made any changes in your life recently? How are they affecting you?

Glad things are looking up for you.
I have lost 14 pounds so far and am working on my diet!
I am working on getting out of the house and not being a recluse and my Dr changed my antidepressant to see if it helps me.
We should go to lunch one day a week Connie so we both get out and have me time!
