Last Minute Disney World Trip

We arrived home late today from a last minute Disney World trip. My husband, being the awesome man that he is, surprised me and Sammi with reservations at the Caribbean Beach Resort for Saturday night to Monday. We’ve been going through a lot of stressful days and nights worrying about Sammi, so he thought we needed to just get away.

And he was right! Disney World is favorite place to visit and all of our stress seems to melt away as soon as we drive through the Walt Disney World gate. Shawn did have some trouble getting this last minute Disney trip planned though because so many of the resorts were booked.

Caribbean Beach Resort

As Disney Vacation Club (DVC) members, we normally stay at at one of the DVC resorts, but there was no room at the inns. He was able to score a room at the Caribbean Beach Resort that had a lovely view using our DVC points though. We’ve stayed at the Caribbean before for a family reunion, but the resort has gone through room renovations since our last stay.

The double size beds are pirate ships and the room has all types of pirate accessories. We had a refrigerator, a flat screen TV and a view of the water. We were extra pleased because we booked a standard Pirate room, not a water view room.

Since we arrived on Saturday night after a full day of work for my husband, we checked in and went out to dinner. Then we spent the rest of the night in our room, just having some family time, which included fighting over the TV remote!

EPCOT

On Sunday, we started off with breakfast at the resort. Nice breakfast platters! Then we went to EPCOT, got to meet Duffy the Disney Bear. Duffy is Mickey’s traveling companion, sewn by Minnie. At EPCOT he is dressed as a sailor and is available for photos and autographs. There’s also lots of Duffy merchandise for your pleasure.

Sammi and I then went on to take part in the Kim Possible Adventure starting in Norway, while Shawn looked around the countries and got some food. We also visited Japan so Sammi could get an anime book. We also visited the new Anime exhibition, which thrilled Sammi, who is a big fan.

Downtown Disney

No Disney trip would be complete without visiting Downtown Disney. We almost always buy something. Hey, we’re Disney fanatics! And we like to walk around to see the stores and restaurants. We did buy Sammi a video game, Kingdom Hearts, as one of her belated birthday gifts.

Contemporary Resort

We also like to visit the Contemporary Resort. Shawn and Sammi play in the arcade. I look in the shops and look at the view from the huge windows. We did visit there because of the pouring down rain and ate lunch at the Contempo Cafe. We have eaten at Chef Mickey’s a few times before and will do that again one day.

Future Trips

We know we’ll be visiting Disney World again. Some will be last minute trips, some are planned ahead of time. Living close to Walt Disney World, being annual pass and DVC members makes it easy for us. If you are planning one of your own Disney World Vacations I highly recommend Disney Destinations, especially if you want something special.

Have you been to the Caribbean Beach Resort? If so, what’s your take on it?

The farthest south I’ve ever gone is South Carolina. Haha! I’d love to take a trip to Florida and Disney World though. It seems like there’s so much to do and see there.

Ohhh I am so jealous! I went to Disney World in Florida back in 1992. Mind you I was only 14 years old, but I’d love to go back and take my kids there.

What a kind and thoughtful husband you have! I’ve never stayed at Caribbean Beach Resort but we’ve loved every Disney location we’ve stayed at – from All Star Music to the Polynesian. I think it’s because the staff is so wonderful. They’ve always made our stays…. well, magical.

Looks like a lovely last-minute vacation and it’s nice that you’ve got Disney so close so you can visit your favorite place as often as you do. I’ve only been there once and it was a’ight though to be honest, I wasn’t all that impressed as I’m used to Disneyland which is set up totally different. I did like Epcot though we had nowhere near enough time to cover most of it as I was down there for a dispatch convention and time was not exactly plentiful.

I’m glad you got to go. I love the Pirate Rooms, don’t they charge extra for them? We visited them when we did our blogger tour.

How thoughtful of your husband :) The last time I was at Disney was 2001 when my high school chorus went to preform. I had a blast. Never been to the Caribbean Beach Resort though. Looks nice. I need to plan a trip for my 2 boys to visit Disney sometime soon, they have never been.

I’ve never been to Disneyland Linda, but hope to visit one day. I guess if you’re used to one thing it’s kind of a shock to visit another. You do need a lot of time for Disney World.

Cindy, we didn’t pay for the rooms because we used our DVC points. We would have used more points if we chose the upgraded room view. Luckily we got that anyway and we were so pleased!

Shanaka, I’ve heard about young people getting to visit Disney through chorus and band. What an experience! Hoping you get to treat yourself and your children one day too.

Believe me Kelly, you wouldn’t have trouble getting to go to bed. They look so realistic. Just get them a cheap plastic sword and a bandanna and they’ll be set to go!
