The topic of today’s Blog Action Day is water. I’ve chosen to write about African Women who spend 40 Billion Hours every year carrying water. The plastic container of water they carry weighs 40 pounds when full. And worst of all, the water they struggle to bring home to their families isn’t even clean.
The walk and the work is time consuming. It keeps women and girls away from their families, household chores, work and school. Carrying about 40 pounds on their backs can cause pain especially in their backs.
Since females are the main ones to carry water in Africa, they are subjected to sexual harassment, rape and bodily injury. Drinking unsafe water can cause all types of diseases, especially in children under the age of five. According to charity: water,
Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of diseases and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.
You can help. Please take part in Blog Action Day and write a post about the need for sanitary water or other topics about water. Sign the petition for the UN’s International Water Treaty to Provide Clean Water Everywhere. Donate or fundraise for clean drinking water.

This is a very important issue. . .so many people get caught up in slippery, oil talk and forget, that for so many, water is the most precious commodity.
