For tweens and teens they can collect Box Tops for Education as a service project. It can be part of a group project or an individual volunteer effort. Also, many high school students need to have volunteer hours for school or for scholarships. Why not work with Box Tops?

A must have is a new backpack and new binders
We pretty much are well-stocked on school supplies at home, but we do go through a lot of glue throughout the year for our daughters art projects part of homeschooling. So, we usually buy more glue than anything else.
The must have back to school item is a brand new set of color pencils, I love a fresh colored pencil and they are great for highlighting and for coloring in charts!
A just-have for kids of family friends is a good backpack.
My sister just finished her college degree about 3 years ago, and it seemed like the main thing we had to stock up on at back-to-school time, was looseleaf notebook paper and good quality pens.
Must have pocket folders!
#2 pencils!
We must have Cheerios for back to school breakfasts.

Socks. I don’t know what happens to my son’s socks over the summer, but I could buy him 12 pairs of brand-new socks on the 4th of July and they’d be worn out, ripped and a few missing by mid-August. However if I buy them as part of back-to-school shopping, they’ll last through Christmas. Go figure.

I would use it for a nice lunch box and ice packs. Some lunch boxes are very cheap and its worth it to get a nicer one that will last!
