Did you know that Moving Is The Best Medicine for Osteoarthritis pain? The Ad Council and The Arthritis Foundation have teamed up to work on this new campaign to inform people with arthritis and their loved ones that regular, moderate exercise
reduces joint pain and stiffness, builds strong muscle around the joints, and increases flexibility and endurance. It reduces inflammation from arthritis and related conditions and lowers the risk of other chronic conditions. It also helps promote overall health and fitness by giving you more energy, helping you sleep better, controlling your weight, decreasing depression, and giving you more self-esteem. Furthermore, exercise can help stave off other health problems such as osteoporosis and heart disease.
Having extra weight on your body increases the pressure on your joints. Moving and being active can help prevent weight gain or help you lose those extra pounds. Don’t forget to eat right too.
I have both Osteoarthritis and Rhuematoid Arthritis yet I try to move as much as I can. I walk around the house, even walking extra when I do my chores. I stretch and move when I’m brushing my teeth and washing up. When I’m sitting at the computer for hours, I take breaks to stand up and move around. Swimming is one of the best types of exercise because you don’t put any pressure on your joints. Every little bit helps. Be sure to talk to your doctor before starting an exercise program. I walk around a high school track. My last goal was 7 miles for 7 days. On the last day, it was pouring rain and I still kept going. Then lightning came and my sweetie made me stop – I only had 5 out of 21 laps to go

We take family walks and I play tag with the kids. When I have time, I do some yoga.

I walk my dogs for 30 minutes at least 5 days a week.
I like to lay flat on my back on the floor with my knees in my chest. I move my legs back and forth. It’s great for my abs, and it’s like a massage for my back!

I walk on our treadmill 3 miles / 5 times per week to get my exercise! We also recently purchased the Wii Fit so I have been doing that as well!
We go on jogs with the dogs.
At home I listen to an oldies radio station. When an artist such as Ricky Nelson is played, I stop what I’m doing, get up and dance around the room. It’s both mentally and physically refreshing.
