One of my road trip memories as a child was counting the weeping willow trees that we saw along the way. I think maybe there was a disease that killed off many of them a decade or so ago but I smile every time I see one.

The best road trip was driving through the middle of the desert in Mexico on a 12 hour road trip. We were in a small Mexican car with no a/c and no radio. I was stuck in the backseat the whole trip. We didn’t speak any Spanish which made it very interesting to cross the borders between the Mexican states. The border guards with their machine guns added to the whole adventure. It was the adventure of a lifetime.

My favorite road trip memory is driving 2 hrs to meet up with someone I barely knew, hopping in his car and driving another 7 hrs to a weekend blues jam to play guitar. All those miles and conversations we became best friends for years. He recently passed away, an incredible guitarist and friend.

My favorite road trip memory was a few years ago when my friend and I drove my oldest son back to college in Chicago after winter break. I had just picked up my SUV about 3 hours before I left and we drove there in a white-knuckle snowstorm. After we dropped him off, we stopped at IKEA and I found out just how much my little SUV can hold!

I like the price of the VW Routan..starting at $25,900 makes it affordable and 17mpg city/25mpg highway is pretty great too.
One of my fave road trips was with my mom and sister. We went to Gaylord Palms for a 3 day weekend. It was for people in the beauty industry. We had a lot of fun checking out the newest products available and just spending time together.

I remember the time I drove from California to New Orleans with a friend and her two cats. We had to take them out at truck stops and walk them on leashes. It was a bit chaotic, but a fun, memorable experience!

I am not going to say this post is my favorite but it is very rememberable!
Tranferred to Virginia Beach hubby in military, just had our youngest son in September so we thought we would pile everybody in our Saturn, luggage, presents,baby seat and all to drive straight through to Orlando for Christmas Day to surprise my family. All I can properly write at this time it was a trip from HELL. Nothing open because when we were traveling it was technically Christmas Day, baby wouldn’t sleep at all, he stayed awake for exactly sixteen hours. Needless to say we arrived in time for Christmas dinner. So happy to see my brothers, neices and nephews

A fav road trip memory: when our children were growing up, every labor day weekend we took a road trip to a place called River Ranch acres……..and we met the grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins there..it was a wonderful place for families and family get togethers where we could grill our own meats, everyone brought food, etc The children so looked forward to it and we would sing all the way there
My favorite road trip memory was driving with my husband (before kids) from San Antonio, TX to Miami, FL. It was a beautiful drive along the coast and we stopped at the beach several times along the way!
I love that the Routan has front and back power outlets (12V). That would come in handy for plugging in the boys’ leapster and saving our batteries!

I don’t know if this is my favorite, but it definitely sticks out in my mind. I was 8. We were road tripping thru Yellowstone. My dad stopped the car to look at some Moose. We got out of the car and walked around a bit. I was walking back to the car and stepped on a big rock in front of me. Except it wasn’t a rock. It was a huge pile of runny moose poop. Yep, to my chin. Gross! I got in so much trouble for ruining my shoes! Funny now, not so funny then!

My most memorable road trip was taking a rented 4 wheel drive subaru down the steep and winding road to Waipio Valley on the Big Island of Hawaii. During the night as we were camping on the beach, a rain storm moved in. The road out of the Valley was flooded. We tried to make it out and got the subaru stuck in water. We were soaking wet too. Finally a tour jeep pulled us out. We made it out of the valley and about 1 mile outside of the town of Kona, the subaru just died on us. That was a crazy roadtrip, but Waipio Valley is beautiful so definitely worth the experience.
