Happy 75th Anniversary Hormel! Hormel food products are a popular item in the US. What began with one product – Hormel® chili con carne now has 20 different varieties including Chi-Chi’s Salsa, Deluso Deli meats and Valley Fresh Turkey and Chicken.
When I grew up my mother cooked everything from scratch. There were no canned foods and no chili served in my house. As I grew older and ate at friends homes, at school or at girl scout or other functions, I finally got the chance to taste hormel chili. And I was hooked! I remember eating Spam too and loved that. I loved eating hot dogs and hormel chili at girl scout camp and that became my favorite meal.

The ironic thing is that the ingredients haven’t changed much. They still use select beef, beans, tomatoes and a spice mix. It’s already cooked and simmered so you just need to heat it up. Same as then.
When you’re having a party and want a quick snack there’s lots of recipes you can make using hormel chil. One that sounds delicious and is really easy is Chili Cheese Dip With Chips:
Serves 12
Ingredients
- 1 (15-ounce) can Hormel® Chili No Beans
- 1 (16-ounce) package pasteurized prepared Cheddar cheese product, cut into cubes
Directions
In large saucepan, combine chili and cheese. Heat over low heat, stirring frequently, until cheese is melted and chili mixture is hot and bubbly. Serve with corn chips.
Enjoy that while watching the NCAA tournament. Remember you can just pop open a can of chili and serve with in a bowl with crackers, add to hot dogs on a bun, or add shredded cheese, olives and other toppings and eat with chips too.
