My Grandmother used to carry around about a dozen handkerchiefs in her “pocketbook”. If she was around and you had the sniffles she would give you one and tell you to wash it and get it back to her. If you didn’t have it back in 3 days she would start calling and asking about it. When you took it back it had to be ironed and folded just so!
