Blog Stats
March 4th, 2010 by Connie RobertsI have been amiss about keeping up with my blog stats and am realizing what a mistake this has been. Since I’m being pitched more often and am seeking sponsorship for BlogHer and perhaps other conferences, I realize how important stats are, even though I could care less about them.
It’s easy to say that numbers don’t matter, but because I want to monetize my blog and work with companies, numbers do matter to them. I learned a great deal from what Chris Brogan said about not selling blog stats, instead show companies that you can sell products and have new ideas. The honest truth though is that companies aren’t “getting” this just yet.
So I’m looking for a tool to measure my stats, but I’m also measuring my social media reach through Twitter mainly. I’ll be coming up with a media kit soon. This will make it easier for me to provide the information quickly to companies that I chose to work with.
I may not know my blog stats right now, but I will soon. I do know that my social reach is very good and getting better each day.
I love comments! If you like what you've read and want to stay "in the know" why not sign up for my RSS feed? If you're already a subscriber, thank you.
I’m a wife and mom of two daughters. My daughters are 12 years apart so that keeps me quite busy and a little crazy at times. My life is a jumble of mixed up mishaps, but it’s always centered around my family.

Google Analytics is a pretty good and free tool – and used by many bloggers and website all over the world. Woopra is also nice and gives you LIVE stats, but the free version doesn’t store as much data.

I used to pay pretty close attention to my blog stats but since the whole “Google Page Rank” debacle of a few years ago I basically gave up on keeping up with them as I also gave up on monetizing my blog. I still do the occasional ad when one is offered to me and I think it’s worth doing but doing my blog for pleasure and not business really makes it unnecessary to check my stats anymore – well, except that I am occasionally curious!
I’m sure there are some good programs out there to keep up with stats – I hope you find one you like!
