• About

I’m a wife and mom of two daughters. My daughters are 12 years apart so that keeps me quite busy and a little crazy at times. My life is a jumble of mixed up mishaps, but it’s always centered around my family.

  • An Update On My Mother

January 28th, 2010 by Connie Roberts

It’s been a while since I’ve written about my mother and her breast cancer diagnosis. Last I wrote we got the good news that all of the lymph nodes were not cancerous. I even stated that she was cancer free. From what we’ve learned though, this isn’t exactly true.

You see when cancer is found in the lymph nodes, even if it is one node, it is considered stage two. When the primary source hasn’t been found it is still assumed that there is cancer in the breast, somewhere. So she is not cancer free. She is in an extremely good position for recovery though.

She still has fluid under her arm from where the lymph nodes were removed. She goes weekly to have that removed. There was the possibility of further surgery to have another pump put in, but since the fluid level is decreasing, that is put on hold.

She will need radiation, but that won’t occur until the fluid is gone completely. The radiation will be 5 days per week for 6 weeks. She is very weak as well as depressed and anxious. She doesn’t want to get help for her mental status though and won’t take the medication her primary doctor ordered.

Please keep her in your thoughts and your prayers. We have a long road ahead of us.

I’m so sorry to hear that! For sure everything will be ok.
I have a close friend with breast cancer, she’s going to remove one of her breasts this month and she also refuses to get mental help. She just says: leave with my thoughts, I’ll be OK. What can we do…

Sounds like she’s in one of the best places you can be when you have some sort of cancer.

Thank you for the update and I’ll keep her in my thoughts and prayers for a successful and complete treatment!

You will definitely be in my prayers. My grandmother and my great-aunt had breast cancer back in the days (the late 90′s) when the treatments were not as good as they are today. From everything I understand–there is MUCH reason to remain optimistic as we are in a era that is really kicking some cancer bootie.

Also, I KNOW that prayer works. It does. It does. It does. And with that being said, you and your mom will be in my daily prayers…

    8. Heather Kephart Says:

How terrifying for you and your Mom, Connie. I will keep you both in my thoughts.

My Grandma had breast cancer, as it seems so many women do. I think we all need to take a hard look at the risk factors and what we can do to lessen our odds of contracting this heartbreaking illness.

Thanks, Connie, for the update. There’s just no question that fighting cancer is a lot of work and very difficult. We’ll be keeping her in our prayers as we ask the Lord to encourage her heart.

You and your mom are in my thoughts. My mom is currently going through chemo for ovarian cancer. She is getting better at coping with the needles and the doctors. I spent 2 weeks with her last spring when she had surgery and saw her again over Thanksgiving. Some days I really wish I hadn’t moved so far away from home. Your mom is lucky to have you there helping her through this.
