Wizard101 Review And Giveaway
January 20th, 2010 by Connie RobertsWizard101 is an online, multiplayer, adventure and action game. It is a game that can be played by children aged 10 and older. It’s also geared for family play. Included are parental safety features. and it also offers a safe Internet environment. Based on a wizard school adventure, it is easy to learn and fun to play. This 3D game brings back memories of Harry Potter.

Samantha’s Review: I really like being able to do different quests and battles, and it’s so much easier being able to type out what you want to say without having to search and search for it! Making friends is easier since you talk better. I also like being able to do Ranked Battles instead of just Practice Battles. Being able to go to new areas makes leveling up so much more fun because the more quests you do, the more EXP (points) you get to level up. Plus, when I do some quests I get furniture for my home and future Death House I’m going to purchase! I also like that their are voices that you can hear instead of just reading the text. All of the voices are different too.
In Wizard101, the areas can differ. Some are only available through crowns or subscription. Another way you can get into subscription areas forever is by purchasing 750 crowns and use those. The crowns only unlock that one street, though. With the free areas, once you do the quests you don’t really have much more to do but walk around, chat and battle the same monsters. They have styles like the Schools. Firecat Alley has a Fire theme, Triton Avenue has a Storm theme and so on. The monsters you battle are also different in each area. Colossus Boulevard has Ice and Nature, and usually you see people using fire spells.
My Review: I’m new to this type of gaming, but once Samantha helped me along, I was able to get the hang of it. Although geared toward teens, this can be a game for adults. There are scenarios require knowledge and strategy. I look forward to the time I spent with my daughter playing this game together. I liked being able to restrict the chat areas and use the game time as a reward for finishing her school work or chores.
To Purchase- There are various options of using the game:
- Crowns- By using crowns, you can pay individually for each world or street. You can also by items like mounts, minions (battle helpers and also make you look powerful and AWESOME) and more. Crowns cost real money. 2500 crowns for $5, and 60,000 is $80!
- Subscriber – By being a subscriber, you get access to everything (besides the crown shop, but if you have crowns you can go there too). Every world, every street, every quest, you name it and you got it. Single Account is $9.95/month. Family Account is $6.95/month. You can also go with the 6 month or yearly fee.
- Free trial – If you have a free trial but you purchase crowns to open an area, you still have a free trial, but unlike most other free trial users, you get to go to that one area.

I’m a wife and mom of two daughters. My daughters are 12 years apart so that keeps me quite busy and a little crazy at times. My life is a jumble of mixed up mishaps, but it’s always centered around my family.

I started played Wizard 101 after listening to Ravenwood Radio Podcast (which I found their podcast because I also listen to Steve @ Inside Azeroth). This is a really refreshing game and I love it, coming from playing other MMOs… it really combines the best world of MMOs, TCGs and all things Wizardy…
My kids love to play Fusion Fall a Cartoon Network type of MMO, and I think I am going to see if they would like Wizard 101…
