• About

I’m a wife and mom of two daughters. My daughters are 12 years apart so that keeps me quite busy and a little crazy at times. My life is a jumble of mixed up mishaps, but it’s always centered around my family.

  • Surprises No One Wants

November 29th, 2009 by Connie Roberts

The day before Thanksgiving my husband Shawn was so sick that he said he was going to the doctor. The night before he had 104 degree fever and couldn’t be away from the bathroom very long if you get my drift. The doctor sent him to the ER to get an IV because he was dehydrated. It ended up that he was admitted with a white blood count two times higher than normal.

He didn’t want to be admitted but he was so weak he didn’t have much of a choice. It was scary and a total surprise. He was given antibiotics by IV and more solution to keep him hydrated but he still had a fever and stomach troubles. By Thanksgiving he was being told that he had C-Diff and needed to stay in the hospital.

Everyone was upset as our daughter Alicia and son-in-law Scott were coming to visit just for the day. We also had my Uncle and his daughter and family visiting from Wisconsin. Plus Shawn was feeling awful. I was at the hospital most of Thanksgiving day but was able to get my gastro doctor to see him.

Thanks to him, he got him released from the hospital with strict instructions on what to do, prescriptions and over the counter meds to take. Shawn is doing a lot better but still is recovering. He’s weak and tired. His blood count is back to normal, thank goodness.

He was able to at least be in the house with us for Thanksgiving. With my Mom being sick and now him, it’s been crazy here, but I’m thankful for my family and friends who have helped me through these tough times.

I’m sorry to hear about Shawn! I hope he’s feeling better and that you got to spend at least a little QT with your daughter!
