• About

I’m a wife and mom of two daughters. My daughters are 12 years apart so that keeps me quite busy and a little crazy at times. My life is a jumble of mixed up mishaps, but it’s always centered around my family.

  • Holiday Cooking

November 29th, 2009 by Connie Roberts

I’m not much of a cook except when it comes to the holidays. Then I gather up my nerve and my holiday recipes and give it a try. Most of the time, things turn out perfectly. It’s me who worries and stresses over nothing. These are meals that I’ve been cooking for ages so I don’t know where my fear comes from.

If I do try something new I warn my family ahead of time, let them look over the recipe and have my husband with me when I cook. I feel a lot better that way. If I have the time, I may even try it before hand to see if I can cook it and to see if it tastes good. I also look for easy recipes so that I’m not having to worry about too many different ingredients and lots of steps to create a tasty meal.

This year I didn’t have to worry about cooking for Thanksgiving. My lovely cousin offered to make the turkey and all of the side dishes this year in my home. I did learn some new Thanksgiving recipes from her and they were delicious and easy to do. She cooks food using Puerto Rican recipes that she learned as a child. So the turkey had lots of garlic and other spices on it. The stuffing was made with ground beef and one of our side dishes was rice and beans. Delicious!

With Christmas coming soon, I’m planning on doing some baking with my daughter Samantha. I won’t have my mother-in-law or older daughter Alicia to bake with her, so it’s up to me. I’ll have to put on my big girl panties and be brave! Moms Who Think is a website that I can turn to for help with baking and with cooking. There’s lots of Christmas cookie recipes which include detailed directions written in simple steps that I can follow. I’ll update you with photos and blog posts to prove that I’m really baking this year!

Sounds like you have things in pretty good order….I know how the holidays can be stressful but like you said you have been cooking some of these recipes a long time. I’m sure December holidays will be great-

I’m sure everything turned out quite yummy…and with leftovers too!

I love to do holiday cooking! It’s the day to day daily grind of cooking that I find absolutely soul sucking.

Fortunately no one has to depend on my cooking skills : /
