• About

I’m a wife and mom of two daughters. My daughters are 12 years apart so that keeps me quite busy and a little crazy at times. My life is a jumble of mixed up mishaps, but it’s always centered around my family.

  • Pumpkin Guts

November 1st, 2009 by Connie Roberts

My Hubby, Shawn got in the Halloween spirit too yesterday. He did the annual pumpkin carving this year and got to spread the pumpkin guts on the table and let Samantha get her hands into them too. I took photos and roasted the seeds.

    Pumpkin Carving

We normally do a tedious Jack-o’-lantern by using a pattern but Samantha wasn’t into that part. She wanted to see and feel the seeds and yucky stuff. With her interest in science growing, she took her time looking through it all. Her class recently learned the names of the parts of plants and showing off to us was her goal. It worked. We were smiling at her ability to remember the terminology.

    Pumpkin Guts

This was something that none of us had seen inside a pumpkin before – a seed that had taken root. Yes it’s on a piece of our newspaper, the St. Pete Times…

    Pumpkin seed root

Samantha found it while rummaging through the pumpkin guts. She later put it in a wet paper towel and plastic cup. We’ll see what comes of it. It’s nice when education and family fun mix together without any work on my part.

I love to see a family ejoying the holidays together. It brings back childhood memories that have remained imprinted in my brain. Pumpkin seed eatings galore until my cousins and I bellies ached. Playing in the snow till your limbs were numb (and as the youngest wih the over protective mother I could hardly walk with all the extra clothing). Riding bicycles through the rectory of our church and school. That’s what family is all about, passing down the memories and traditions to our children and them passing them down to theirs.

OMG! Thats so strange that a seed too root in the pumpkin lol. I have noticed this year (in Australia) that we have started ‘doing’ Halloween more. We never really had the shopping centers decorate for it until now. I accually got 2 groups of trick or treaters!! yay! Maybe one day I can look forward to making a jack o lantern :D

Ha! Your pumpkin was pregnant! LOL We didn’t get big pumpkins this year – just two little ones for the table. I was kind of bummed, but, they are a lot of work.

Looks like you guys had a lot of fun with yours, though!! :)

My family loves to carve pumpkins but me? Not so much. The smell makes me gag and I’m not too crazy about the icky guts.

We were lazy (and semi-broke) this Halloween, but conveniently so… seems no one on our street turned on their lights. Also didn’t hear the kids at all roaming around. Not sure what happened to Halloween this year around here… but the economy sux here in Vegas so maybe that had something to do with it?

Pumpkin guts – is there anything more squishy on the face of the planet?

I’ve never seen a seed take root like inside a pumpkin before either; it would be cool if it grew into a pumpkin vine!

That’s so cute! I was a “science girl” myself, so I highly approve! :)
