Samantha has always been afraid of losing her baby teeth. But Thursday night she showed bravery when she took her tooth out on her own. Usually she would wait until her tooth would either fall out by some kind of accident or the dentist would have to take it out.
Believe me, getting a dentist to remove a loose tooth is like pulling teeth (awful, I know). So we’d go through the whole episode of her being afraid to go anywhere until the tooth fell out. At school, she’d need water at her desk in case she’d taste blood in her mouth. It was pretty much torture for her.
But, like another rite of growing up, Samatha’s bravery won out. She took a tissue and moved her loose tooth back and forth until, jackpot! She had her tooth in her hand and a tiny bit of blood in her mouth. She was so proud of herself that she yelled loud enough to wake my husband up. That in itself is amazing.
The Tooth Fairy (nope, she’s too old for that – she calls it the Mom Tooth Fairy now) left her $5 in recognition of her growing up too fast for me.

I’m sure it’s not funny for her, but it’s funny reading about her loose tooth adventures. And yep, for $5.00 I’d be ready to pull out all kinds of teeth!

I just can’t stand the tooth thing! I know if goes against all the rules about being a mom, but UGH – I hate the thought of touching teeth or yanking them out!
Good for Samantha!

My daughters were the same way with their teeth and I think my son probably was, too. As a kid I can remember working at the darned things until they came out as having a loose tooth drove me nuts – plus I was looking forward to the 25 cents the Tooth Fairy would leave me. Had it been $5 I think I would have pulled out the ones that were fine!
