Replying To Blog Comments

I was in the habit of replying to all of my blog comments until the a couple of months ago. I have a plugin, the Comment Email Responder, that helps me do this easily. I know how important it is to connect with my readers and replying to comments is an important way to accomplish this.

What’s been happening with me though, is that I have three active blogs that I am writing on often. Thank goodness that I am getting frequent comments too. Trying to keep up with my writing, reviews, Twitter, Facebook, forums and other blogging activities has become very time consuming.

I want to publicly apologize and let you know that I do read your comments, each and every one. In fact, I still get excited when I get them. I’m trying to work out a better time management system so that I can get back into replying to the comments you leave me.

What do you do about replying to comments on your blog? Do you have a particular system that you use?

I try to reply to the majority of comments and I always reply if it’s a new visitor. I only do what’s fun with my blog, and relying is fun, so I chucked other things (like stumbling and digging, worrying about keywords and linkbacks…).

I really do not have a system. I have three blogs and in the beginning I was blogging all the time, but lately I have been in a bloggy funk. I have also been feeling overwhelmed keeping up all three blogs. For the past couple of months I haven’t been doing much. I am thinking of combining two of my blogs. I love Facebook, twitter, social networking sites and blogging, but right now I am just feeling overwhelmed.

    I am not very helpful…sorry:)

Like you, I also have three blogs. Which keep me busy.

Lately, I’ve been deleting the comments. Because, unfortunately, I have been spammed more often than not. (I do have “spam catchers” and I do approve comments before they are published to my site so that helps me sort out the chaf from the wheat.)

Having said that, once I start getting comments again that make sense, it is my plan to respond to them.

I have been neglecting commenting too but I hope to get back on the saddle again here soon. I usually have a list of blogs that I frequent and I divide them up and comment three days a week and add any blogs that visit and comment.

I try to respond to what I can and when I can. I don’t get many comments on my 3 blogs so that is normally not an issue.

I was looking for an email plug in so I’ll have to check that out. I’m going to be even busier then before so that should help.

I don’t have a system to reply to comments. This is an area I need to learn more about!

I answer them all. No system, just enjoy reading them, answering and of course, deleting the spammers, sploggers, etc. Yes, it takes time but it is well worth it.

Some days I can answer and some days not. Of course, I may not post as many times as you do so that tends to give me time.

This is a great personal site that you have here. I have site myself where people can debate on controversial topics, 24/7. It’s time for there to be more power to the people.

When you get a chance, let me know what you think. Also, maybe we can do a link exchange or something. Let me know.

In all honesty, I very rarely respond to comments unless someone has asked a question or there is a particular point I want to make. If a person has commented using their email address then I respond back to it via email otherwise, I guess I just don’t respond at all. I wish I had the time to answer all comments but I’d need quite a few more hours in the day to do that!

Sigh. This is just a thorny issue with me. I would LOVE to respond to comments on my blog, but I simply do not have the time and I’m so anal-retentive/obsessive-compulsive that I would not be able to sleep at night if I missed a comment, or if my response triggered another comment from the reader and I didn’t respond to THAT one. I actually wrote an entire blog post about this once and got some feedback from my readers: http://thecreativejunkie.com/2008/12/10/all-aboard-the-tangent-express/

It’s better for my mental health not to respond to blog comments.

I am figuring a system out…on one of my blogs I have to approve the comments and I do notice that on this blog I tend to return comments more.
