Disney World Again

It’s time for our summer trip to Disney World again. We’ll be leaving Sunday and staying at a new resort, Ft. Wilderness. There is one big change for us and that is we’ll be staying in a studio instead on a one bedroom room.

For me, this means that I’ve been researching how to save money on food since we won’t have a full kitchen. We are Disney Vacation Members, so with a studio, we’ll have a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. We’ll be eating breakfast in our rooms as usual, but won’t be able to make dinners.

We are taking along good old peanut butter and jelly to make sandwiches, some lunch meat, bread, and lots of snacks in small packages. We’ll take lunch and snacks with us. We’ll also try to eat dinner early and get the lunch rates or we’ll eat at counter service meals. Did you know that you don’t need to have a combo meal even though that’s what is advertised? Instead you can order just the burger, for example. One of us will do that, while the other gets the full meal and share the fries. I only drink water, which we bring with us.

We are going to have our two dinners out and we’ve looked for discounts for either annual pass holders or DVC members. There’s also pizza delivery or going off property to eat, which we may do too. I know this may sound crazy, but I enjoy finding ways to save money.

We are Disney World lovers too! Not yet VC members, not in the budget right now, but will be someday. :)

We have been five times, five years in a row and our next trip will be next fall. For us, we enjoy pinching pennies before we go and then really splurging on our vacation. We get the dining plan and take full advantage of it. …Although we still generally eat breakfast in the room too.

Great blog! Always fun to find other DW lovers. :)

I stayed at Fort Wilderness in 1996 and it was a lot of fun. I think your daughter will love it. They have a lot of fun kid’s activities. It’s almost like it is its own theme park with all the things there are to do. I love that buses take you everywhere you want to go too! Have a great time. You are so lucky to live in Florida close by!

You will have a fabulous time I’m sure – I miss WDW! I wish I could do it your way as I’m sure I would have been back several times over the past couple of years, but I am one of those people who want to the whole pampered thing when I go and like the fancy meals throughout the parks.
