Oral Surgery

Yesterday, Peanut had her second oral surgery. She had what is called a tissue reduction. That means she needed to have her gum cut so that one of her adult teeth come out. It was one of her front teeth which has been out for about five years now.

Her baby tooth was knocked out accidently and too soon. We were told that her gum had grown too thick to allow the tooth to come out and she was referred to the Oral Surgeon. Peanut really wants to be able to smile big for her sister’s wedding and was happy to find out that something could be done.

Thursday we had our consult with the surgeon and since there was a cancellation on Friday we were able to schedule the surgery. She was very brave about it. She had surgery about a year ago with the same doctor and nurse so she felt comfortable with them.

Friday morning we gave her the Valium the doctor ordered. She wasn’t as goofy as last time, but was relaxed and a bit sleepy. By the time we got to the office, she was just about asleep. They called us in and she needed help to walk in to the room.

She got laughing gas and had all of us hysterical with what she was saying. She was not afraid in the least. This time we were even able to see her get her IV since she wasn’t crying. Hubby and I weren’t nervous at all since she was doing fine, compared to the night before and that morning when we were nervous wrecks.

About an hour and a half later we were led into the room to find a very sleepy little girl. She had to be carried to a wheelchair and then carried to the seat in our van, where she fell asleep again. She slept until about 1 PM. We fed her soft food, like jello and pudding and yogurt. She did have some pain and took Motrin. And she was loved on by our cat, who always knows when someone doesn’t feel well.

Recovery Oral Surgery

Today she is feeling much better and even ate some regular food today. And you can even see her front tooth already!

That makes me kinda sad. I’m glad it all went well. I’m such a worrier! I don’t show it outwardly but inside I’m a mess. LOL That’s a sweet pic of her and the cat.

After reading how brave Peanut was and how well she did, I can only hope that Amanda does half as well when she goes to have her two lower wisdom teeth removed on June 23rd. She’s pretty nervous about the needle for the IV and hasn’t given much thought at all to the whole “teeth being removed” part of the procedure!
