Dudley’s Solo Book Review

Dudley’s Solo is a children’s book that teaches about how children are different but can get along. Dudley is a boy who is deaf but does everything that his friends do. One of his favorite hobbies is being in his church choir. He is accepted by the choir leader, the other children and his church. When the time comes for the choir to do a recital and Dudley is the only one not doing a solo, he shares his disappointment with his friends. They put into motion a surprise to make Dudley feel just like one of them.

dudleyssoloThe author of Dudley’s Solo is Tiffany Alexander, who was born legally blind but went on to become an editor of CNN. Her church, Ebeneezer Baptist in Sandusky, Ohio helped her to believe in herself and to try things that people thought impossible. There are other books in this series including Braided My Hair and an upcoming book, Ebenenezeer Opens A Savings Account.

My Review: Dudley’s Solo is a book for young children aged about 3 – 7. It teaches about acceptance, learning about others before making judgments and opens up conversations about bullying and children with disabilities. The illustrations are bright and colorful.
