• About

I’m a wife and mom of two daughters. My daughters are 12 years apart so that keeps me quite busy and a little crazy at times. My life is a jumble of mixed up mishaps, but it’s always centered around my family.

  • Dirty Bow Wow Book Review And Giveaway

May 15th, 2009 by Connie Roberts

    *CONTEST ENDED. WINNER ANNOUNCED.*
You don’t need to be a dog lover to fall in love with this book, believe me. I hate to admit that I’m a cat person but not so hot about dogs. But no matter, the photos and stories featured in Dirty Bow Wow: A Tribute to Dogs and the Objects of their Affections will have you smiling and fixated on the captions about the dogs and their prized playthings.

dirtybowwowcoverThe authors, Cheryl and Jeffrey Katz, made sure to feature some rescue dogs in their photo shoots. Their anecdotes will have you thrilled that they have not only found the love a human(s) but the comfort of an item they keep close to them. The book publisher, Ten Speed Press is running a Dog Toy Drive.

The purpose of the Dog Toy Drive is to help these dogs find comfort while waiting for adoption, to begin to form a pseudo-relationship and to keep them happy and busy. You can donate a toy for shelter dogs at participating bookstores across the US.

My Review: The photos from Dirty Bow Wow are amazing! They capture each dog’s personality and a moment of joy in their lives. The short stories helped me to get to know the dogs better. I especially liked that the dogs’ breeds were mentioned so I could identify them.

I am a little sad that Brownie doesn’t enjoy playing with toys because they sure do make for some cute photos. He is fond of rawhides. Does that count?

His daddy was big into playing/destroying toys. Here’s a photo of Peanut:

Both of our dogs, 100 lb Lab & 14 lb Pom, love their squeak balls. They absolutely go nuts when they see you pick one up and will often try to beat one another to get it when you have thrown it and will even try and steal it away from one another. Both are so good natured that even when they are challenging one another over the ball they will drop it if our 3 yr old son reaches in to take it away from them.

    5. Carlene Says:

I have four Chihuahua’s and we have tons of toys, but they fight on this one yellow snail. I find it under the bed, in the back yard, in the car and it is always filthy. It seems the dirtyier it is the more the fight over it. It is crazy. Please include me in your giveaway.
      Thanks

Well, with 16 dogs, it’s for sure that there are toys galore around here! Tug toys seem to be the favorite and if one isn’t handy, they’ll grab socks or towels as a ready substitute.
