Speak Now For Kids

Children don’t have a voice in the government. They rely on us adults to speak for them on the important issues. Speak Now For Kids is a group that wants to spread the word that “Children need a voice in health reform”.

The new administration is going to be working on health reform. And we need to be sure that children’s health needs are included. Here are some facts to keep in mind

• 8.8 Million chilren are not insured.
• Children are more likely to get treatment for recurring illnesses and preventative care from a physician or dentist if they have insurance. As a result, they get sick less often and get needed treatment when they are sick.
• Uninsured children and those who don’t have comprehensive insurance coverage are more likely to lack a usual source of care. Their caregivers are more likely to delay or forgo care they may need. As a result, they are more likely to be admitted to hospitals through emergency rooms.
• Unhealthy children are more likely to miss school and their parents to miss work to care for them.
• Many adult chronic health conditions have their origins in childhood. If children are not insured they may not be diagnosed early.

• Speak to Congress about the importance of the need for children’s health insurance coverage
