Update on Lost Clothes

Yesterday, I, my Mom and my daughter went to the Nursing Home to visit my Aunt and to check on her missing clothes. We figured they would at least have found a few items, but not one piece of clothing was there.

With it being Saturday, the weekend staff was on duty. But we didn’t wait to get the nurse on staff and explain the situation. She was very upset and said that this has been an issue with other residents – even though there’s a sign stating that Family Does Laundry. She didn’t say that their clothes are lost though. We were pretty much livid and told her that we wanted her clothes back in her closet ASAP.

Today, my Mom called the nurses’ station and no clothes. Tomorrow my Mom will be calling the Administrator to get this issue settled. This is completely ridiculous. We went through the days when clothing was picked up by either me or a friend and there was no more than one or two days between.

We also are requesting that the CNA not care for my Aunt as there were other issues we learned about with her care, one included her not using the wheelchair to transport my Aunt to the bathroom. She is still very unsteady on her feet. She is at risk for falling. We understand that she can walk with assistance but a wheelchair needs to be with her in case of a fall.

It’s not easy when a family member is in a long term care facility.

I hope you have better luck with the administrator than I did with my mom’s. Mother had even rocked her administrator in the church nursery when an infant.

Bless you… When my Mom was in the nursing home, we would see her clothes on other patients. Evidently when a family doesn’t keep up their family member’s laundry, the aids will go exploring for other resident’s fresh clean clothes. Find that patient (& family) and you might have solved your problem. Theft is a HUGE problem in nursing homes and especially so in this economy. So sorry y’all are having to go thru this.

Connie, I had no idea theft of clothing was such a problem in the nursing homes. My daughter is a care aid but she’s never mentioned it. Now, I’ll be sure to ask her.

I hope you get it sorted out for your Aunt – you all have enough to contend with, without going through that too.

Scary enough contemplated the (not so future) need for care or assistance, without adding something like this to the mix. There’s a whole uproar over assisted care living, and I can see why. If the problems start “this small” (which it is not), I shudder to think of all the rest. Hope you catch the thief – how despicable!

OH, I know this must be difficult for you. It is so hard when our loved ones get up in age and we have to put our trust in facilities to help care for them. I hope everything gets resolved quickly.

I am so sorry you are dealing this this. It’s hard enough to have a loved one in one of these facilities but to have to deal with this kind of tedious BS is just unreal.

What in the world? The biggest issue there is probably the CNA not helping your aunt to the bathroom with the wheelchair. That would not be good for her fall. Uffda. Hopefully that situation will get better. It’s so great that you guys are so diligent in her care.

You would think that they would get on the situation. My friends mom was in the hospital and they let her fall… broke her pelvis and pulled her should out trying to lift her….. I will avoid letting my mom be institutionalized as long as possible.
