Big Brother is here. Some of us know it. Some of us are unaware. Some of us have our heads in the sand. Let’ face it, there are cameras on traffic lights and on street corners where there is a lot of crime. Our cars’ license tags show up in photos if we go through a toll without paying. Our phone calls can be bugged if the government believes we are doing something illegal.
Now with GPS Tracking capabilities getting more inexpensive, not only is the government, the police and private investigators, but people like you and me making use of these devices to learn where someone is going. If one of these devices were on my car, I would feel humiliated. I would be so angry that anyone would know what I was doing every day. My trust in people would be completely gone.
I feel completely different if I had the ability to use GPS Tracking for my daughter to keep her safe. I don’t know if I would continue to use it as she became older though unless she knew about it. I would not want her to feel that I was spying on her. But at her age now, 10 years old, I would feel good knowing that there is a way to protect her from an abduction.
One person I hope that had a GPS Tracking device on her car, on her body, and implanted in her brain (!) is Casey Anthony. I hope that the police and FBI kept track of everything that she did before she was arrested and after her daughter was missing. That would make me feel that this technology was being put to good use.

Just stopping by to say Hello and keep up the great work!!!
I think with all new technologies there will always be downsides. You’re right, GPS can definitely be used to violate privacy, but it’s also made the life of many a driver much easier.

I travel a lot, so my husband set up the Google Latitude program on my Blackberry, which lets friends and family view my location when I have it activated. It’s come in very handy when I’ve needed directions or my husband wants to make sure I’m safely on the road.

We watch a LOT of NCIS and (used to) CSI, so whenever something like this comes up, I figure if they are already doing it as a TV thing, it’s either here now or will be soon. GPS does come in handy I guess for some things, but plain out spying isn’t on my list. Other than the mandate to switch to digital TV (don’t get me started) and sitting here at the computer, I don’t own anything gps connected (at least that I’m aware of). Also, I hate to show my ignorance at the news, but I’ll have to look up who Casey Anthony is… could be I’m aware of the story (tragedy) could be I’m not.
